I abhore ironing and will wear wrinkly clothes before involving myself in such a mundane chore.I decided to read up on fabric steamers and read all of the reviews on this site for all of the brands.Since this is my first steamer I decided on purchasing one in a mid-price range because I wanted something a tad sturdier than the smaller models.The base width is nice and the wheels are large giving me the ability to move it around wherever I want. The pole is not tall enough in my opinion (a common thread I see in many reviews).I found myself sitting in a chair beside it to steam my clothing.If you are looking for that stiff starched look then this isn't for you but if you want to get dressed quickly in the morning with minimal wrinkles then you may like this model.The steam started up pretty quick and it was easy to catch on to the techniques suggested in the manual. I purchased this at Target.

Rowenta DG-980 Expert Steam Generator Review

Ok I will be the first to review - and from a guy :) Let me start off with I iron all of my clothes which my wife stipulated before we got married :) Ok so being a guy I did not want to spend hours ironing my shirts plus I wanted them to look as if they came from the dry cleaners. I had the Rowenta Professional and honestly it was horrible. So I almost did not go with Rowenta but as I researched steam generators it came down to this and Euro-Pro. I decided to stick with Rowenta and I am glad I did. My ironing is a snap. The steam that comes out of this machine is unbelievable and that is what removes wrinkles. I highly recommend this iron if you want to cut your ironing in half. Also be sure and call Rowenta customer service and see if there is a rebate. I called with questions and then asked about a rebate they then sent out a form just from Rowenta - 20 bucks. Helps with the sting of a $200 iron :)
Pros:
1.STEAM!!! Lots of it and very powerful.
2.You can steam hanging garments.
3.Big water basin in the base so no more running out of water
Cons:
1. It is bulky. Can't hang on the wall :)
2. After about 15 irons you do need to rinse out the boiler. Very easy but price you pay for the steam.
3.Creates a rumble noise every once in awhile while the water is being injected into the boiler.

Shark Full Sized Iron Review

The steam died within a week of using it (have to manually spray the clothes), and the cleaning feature is useless.It's a utile iron, I suppose, but still rather a disappointment.Spend the extra $$$ and get a good one.

Hamilton Beach Professiona Iron Review

Yamata GSI8800 heavy duty commercial iron Review

I'm picky about how an iron/steam generator/gravity iron works & this one doesn't work very good.This gravity iron produces half the steam that my Pacific did.I've used it for a few days, so I'm hoping there's an air bubble in the line rather than permanent skimpy steam.The water line should be longer; it won't reach to the end of my board.The warning light showing that the iron is on is on the back of the iron rather than the side.The heat level indicator is not readily visible as it is a indentation on the black plastic; a dot of red on the plastic would be better.The "control" for shutting off water from the bottle is a piece of plastic junk that doesn't stop the water instead of a screw.

All in all, it's better than a traditional iron, but if it doesn't start producing more steam, I'll replace it.Cheaper wasn't better this time.

2-23-09:I'm editing the review to add a new note:the plastic tubing between the water bottle and the iron is not heat resistant like my other gravity iron.The tubing has touched the iron while I was using it & has started to melt.

I am getting more steam--I probably had a few air bubbles in the tube, but the steam isn't as heavy as my Pacific.

I purchased this item about three months ago after my 30 year old Black and Decker finally passed on.My primary use is for sewing applications and I purchased it because it was on sale and seemed like it had quite a few features for the price point.I had researched Rowentas, Black and Deckers and everything in between and I couldn't find an iron that seemed like it was an all around great deal.I did end up settling for this one because I couldn't justify the price of a Rowenta and the Black and Decker that is so popular wasn't available in any store near my house.So far, I've been very happy with this purchase.It puts out quite a bit of steam and has a nice weight behind it.It heats up quickly and lights up green to indicate that its ready for use.I also like that one can use regular tap water in this, rather than filtered water.The cord is plenty long for my uses and never seems to get tangled.There's also plenty of room at the base of the iron to wrap the cord around itself and it has a little clip to keep the cord in place.It also has a one year warranty.The only drawback I've found to this iron is that the temperature controls are on the handle and occasionally, I accidentally change the temperature setting while ironing.Its a nuisance and that's why I dinged one star on the review.Overall, this is a great iron and I hope it gives me many years of good use.

Rowenta DA-35 Latitude 35 Compact Iron with Dual Voltage for Travel Review

I travel quite a bit with my fiance and we always had wrinkled clothes after my poor packing job in our suitcase.I decided to get this travel iron to help and I have not been disappointed!

B&D Steam Advantage Iron Review

This iron has had a series of issues
1) it has a hot spot in the front that melts all synthetic fabrics. Even if you carefully set the temperature to the correct fabric, the hot area will melt and stick. You are constantly scraping the sole to remove residue.
2)Mine steamed well for about 2 weeks then it started to leak BADLY. Everything ended up with water spots.

Select any other iron. This one is a waste of money.

H.B. STEAM IRON Review

I am a quilter so I use an iron everyday.I iron fabric by the yard preparing it to cut.I press seams while making a quilt.I especially like the stainless steel sole plate that glides easily over the fabric. It is light weight which great when you are pressing many yards of fabric. It make not be the most expensive iron, but in my opinion it is the best.

I'm always trying to get a bunch of things done at the same time. The auto shutoff feature on this iron has saved me many a time, when I've plugged it in, got involved with another project, and returned an hour or two later to find I'd forgotten the iron and left it on. No wasted electricity, no fire damage. The water reservoir is nice and large, so those times I do get involved in ironing a bunch of stuff, I don't have to keep stopping to refill it. And, because it's detachable, it's much easier to fill.

Reliable Digital Velocity V100 Steam Iron Review

I am a professional costumer, and am used to using industrial irons.This iron puts out the best steam I have ever seen in a home (non steam generator) iron.The iron puts out a fine mist and doesn't "spit."This particular model has the option of turning off the automatic shut off.I consider this an important feature since I do sew at home sometimes.

The iron is heavy, but I consider that to be a good thing.It is difficult to get a good press with a light weight iron.

It would have been nice if the iron controls had not been placed right at the spot where your thumb rests.And I think that the handle is a little thick which in addition to the weight makes it awkward to handle.

However, if you sew or have delicate clothes which might water spot, this is a very good iron because of the fine steam it creates.I have only had it for about a month, so I cannot speak to its longevity.

Proctor Silex 17288 Traditions Lightweight Steam Spray Iron, White Review

I used to have been in the Marines until 2007, I had this iron for a good 3 years now and it continues to do its job.I bought this on base down in North Carolina for less than $20.It's cheap, it's simple, and very dependable.This is a recommend compared to all those other expensive ones w/ other functions.The only disapointment for me about this item is if they discontinue these.

Rowenta DZ9080 Advancer Iron Review

This is the best iron I have ever used.It literally irons in half the time compared to my old Black and Decker.I am a seamster and have seen an improvement in my work since I began setting stitches and pressing seams with the Advancer Iron. The burst of steam feature knocks out tough wrinkles and is really helpful with stubborn seams.It is not heavy, but it is heavier than my previous irons, so it really makes pressing fabric easy.The narrow tip is a great feature!It fits like a dream in trouble places. I used it while constructing a coat and the narrow tip allowed access to the most difficult areas.

The one down side is the automatic shut off feature.It will shut off in 8 minutes if left vertically, in 30 seconds if left on its soleplate.I would prefer if this feature were optional.

The Advancer is formulated to work with tap water, not distilled.But for those of us with an excess of organic matter in our tap water, the tap water may be diluted with 50% bottled water (per the instructions) for excellent results.

After years of use and finally wearing out my last Black & Decker Quick 'n Easy iron, I bought this newer model right away. Let's just say this is a genuine case of "they sure don't make 'em like they used to!". I realize this is very reasonably priced, however, it has so many shortcomings, you really should give a lot of thought to another model. The blue cover over the water holder is translucent - you cannot tell how much, if any, water you have in the iron unless your lighting is super bright and shining at just the right angle. However, the worst defect is that the iron just decides unpredictably to soak whatever you are ironing. So if you need something ironed to wear in a hurry - do not use the steam feature... OR have a blow dryer handy - you'll need it!
