Jerdon First Class J513W Iron with Dual Auto Off Review

Jerdon First Class J513W Iron with Dual Auto OffI've owned a few irons. Last one was really expensive. This works just as well. It's light, heats quickly and makes a ton of steam without spitting drops. No complaints except that it might be a little bit unstable. If you sit it down it will stay put. However, it seems to fall over a lot while I'm moving stuff one the board. But, I am heavy-handed and the board is on carpet, so who knows. I wouldn't spend more money for an iron. I gave it four stars because unless it irons the clothes for me, it doesn't deserve 5. HA! You want five stars, make it happen Jerdon.

Handheld Steamer Review

Handheld SteamerThis is the first steamer I've purchased. I've used it a few times so far and it works quite well, especially compared to a similarly priced iron. The great thing is that this does not make contact with the clothing like an iron does. I ruined a good pair of pants with an iron recently and I know with a steamer I won't have this problem. This particular model seems to be built pretty well with a long, durable, three-pronged electrical cord. I would recommend this product to anyone. I don't give it five stars because it takes a little longer to remove wrinkles than I thought--but this is only a small gripe.

T-Fal Ultraglide Easycord Iron Review

T-Fal Ultraglide Easycord IronI bought this iron for Mrs. Spudman and she loves it. I've used it a few times myself and must say it feels good in the hand and does a superb job removing wrinkles. So why do "we" like this iron so much?

The T-fal doesn't require distilled water like many other other irons, and the owner's guide actually recommends regular tap water. Lugging home the occasional gallon of distilled water can be a nuisance.

We like the convenience of the nine-foot cord that's much less restrictive than shorter cords on other irons we've owned.

Mrs. Spudman raves about the powerful steam and the awesome ability of this iron to make wrinkles disappear. My quilter wife pressed some pieces of material that had been folded since the Iron Age. Those wrinkles weren't even a challenge for this T-fal.

With a transparent water tank, filling to the correct level is easy. The water inlet hinged lid fits snugly and securely like none we've experienced before. One fills the tank with the iron in a horizontal position.

This is an attractive iron with easily understood and easily read controls. A light comes on when the iron has reached operating temperature and another light stays on while the iron is plugged in and is on.

With its 1700 watts of power I especially like the three way automatic off feature on this iron. It'll cut off after 8 minutes of nonuse in the vertical position or 30 seconds of nonuse in the horizontal position or on its side.

The Easycord system works wonderfully and has to be experienced to be appreciated. The T-fal's design keeps the cord up and out of the way.

The UltraGlide is a comfortable, attractive appliance that glides over fabric almost effortlessly. We like its performance and safety features, especially the very sturdy heel stand around which the cord wraps neatly for storage. So far we have absolutely no regrets about purchasing this iron.

Product Description:
Ironing can be an enjoyable task when working with the right equipment. This thoughtfully designed iron makes it possible to get through piles of shirts, slacks, napkins, and more, quickly and efficiently. Its scratch-resistant non-stick soleplate glides along smoothly, while its pointed tip works well for getting into pleats, between buttons, and along seams. Even more, the soleplate provides 64 steam holes: 27 large steam holes for powerful performance and 37 microholes for steam diffusion across the entire surface with a concentration at the tip. The unit not only produces continuous steam (up to 25 grams per minute), but it also delivers a burst of steam (up to 50 grams per minute) as needed to help smooth out stubborn wrinkles. For added convenience, the iron's spring-assisted water-tank cover comes with a large sealed inlet opening for easy filling and to prevent spills, and its large 9-ounce water-tank size means fewer refills necessary. Set the temperature using the round thermostat dial; a "ready" light will indicate when the desired heat has been reached. Other highlights include an Easycord system that keeps the power cord out of the way when ironing, simple push-button controls, a vertical-steam option for hanging garments or curtains, a self-cleaning system with an anti-scale valve, a comfort-grip handle, and an extra-large heel to help prevent tipping over and to hold the 9-foot cord securely in place when in storage. For peace of mind, its three-way automatic shut-off function with a blinking warning light helps ensure maximum safety. The iron measures approximately 5-4/5 by 11-2/5 by 5-4/5 inches, and its soleplate carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Black & Decker AS75 Quickpress Iron with Variable Steam and Nonstick Soleplate Review

Black & Decker AS75 Quickpress Iron with Variable Steam and Nonstick SoleplateOK, for this price you're getting a relatively small iron. But it's a real iron.Much bigger than a travel iron.

Anyway, I needed a spare iron for quick de-wrinkling sessions at my girlfriend's place.(I live out of a duffle bag when I'm there and she doesn't own an iron!)I own a top-o-the-line B&D iron which I love, so I went for this inexpensive "younger cousin."

Bottom line:I recommend it.Once it gets going (a couple of minutes tops), it really whoooshes out the steam!I fill it up, crank it up, and use it for Dockers and Timberland cotton shirts. The steam blows through so well I only have to do one side! It's a time-saving wrinkle killer!

As for finesse jobs on other fabrics, I couldn't tell you.But for hammering out wrinkles in cotton, it's great.I recommend it and it's so inexpensive, you can't go wrong.

Polder 1232-82 Deluxe Tabletop Ironing Board, Natural Review

Polder 1232-82 Deluxe Tabletop Ironing Board, NaturalI bought this ironing board knowing that I do not iron many things. It is small, compact, and would be great for a small apartment as it stores easily.Doing large items would be harder, but it is fine for a shirt or touching up slacks. It has a padded top, and a cover is not necessary for use.It seems sturdy on a table top, but is lightweight. If you iron most of your things, or large tablecloths and such, consider a larger and more sturdy board. It is exactly what I expected, the price was great and I am pleased with it.

Conair GS4 Compact Fabric Steamer Review

Conair GS4 Compact Fabric SteamerI spent several months researching garment steamers and could not decide which one I wanted - price vs. quality and which brand was best etc. So I decided to buy an inexpensive one and see if I liked it. Well... I love it and I'm so happy I didn't spend $200 on one either!
I took my 20% off coupon to Linens and Things and was able to compare several models side by side and CAUTION!!! the much more expensive Sharper Image model is the EXACT same as this one just a different color! As far as I could tell, this table top model was the same as the pro models but without the extension pole and with a smaller water tank - I mean, how long are you going to be steaming anyway?
When I got it home, it was easy to assemble - just stick the hose in, fill it up with water and turn it on. It took a few minutes - actually I realized I hadn't been paying attention and filled it way past the max fill line - ooops - but it still never overflowed or leaked. As soon as the water started boiling, it began to put out a lot of very hot steam. I was a bit worried that the hose was too stiff but once the steam started flowing, it became very flexible.
For all the people that did not like the short poles on the more expensive models, the over the door hanger was perfect. The steam handle hangs on it and it is a much better design for long pants or dresses.
I steamed a pair of curtains, a bed skirt, my comforter (still on the bed), a shower curtain, and a pilgrim outfit. I ran the steamer for about 30 min. and when I stopped, the water level had just made it down to the max line. My biggest problem was that I ran out of things to steam! I was having so much fun watching the wrinkles disappear from all my stuff!! I did steam my hand once or twice at first but I quickly figured out how to stop doing that!
I got this steamer for just under $25 and I couldn't be happier!

Shark Rapido Electronic Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate, GI468 Review

Shark Rapido Electronic Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate, GI468I love this iron! It has ton's of steam, with the plus side of strong, verticle (and horizontal) blasts of steam for just steaming items, over a foot away! Nice "large" filling cup for adding water, and it can use "tap" water, (an amazing perk for a long-time "distilled" water user like me for years!)

I really needed a "lightweight" iron with arthritis in my right hand and this one is perfect. I can iron for long stretches without pain or discomfort. I bought a large wonderful (Rowenta) iron, which was beautiful, but I couldn't use it due to the weight. It's amazing what a great job this "lightweight" can do up against it's "heavier" bigger, rivals!

It gets out wrinkles better than any other iron I have owned in over 40 years of ironing too.The digital readout of levels and readiness are a colorful light show treat too! The automatic shut off feature is a must too (with annoying "Senior" moment forgetfulness episodes!)

In addition, the unit produces variable steam and a spray mist for ironing, or it can be used vertically to steam hanging garments or curtains. Other highlights include an anti-calcium filter that prolongs the life of the iron, an anti-drip design so there's no need to worry about water spots, an ergonomic handle for a comfortable grip, lightweight construction, and a long power cord, which pivots 360 degrees for maximum maneuverability. Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam Generator Review

Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam GeneratorSteam generator irons are very common in Europe (where I am from originally) and buyers are provided with extra information that to my mind makes a huge difference in the purchasing decision. In the United States, however, few models exist and compete on the market and this data may not be so helpful as there is not much choice besides the Rowenta line (of 2). I suspect consumers iron less in this country and make more use of cleaners' services. However, I thought I'd share the information I found for the benefit of European buyers, more sophisticated buyers or more thorough minded buyers.

Rowenta was kind enough to give me the information I was looking for after some inquiry with their technical department. Here it is: the steam pressure is 4 bars (pretty good) and the continuous steam flow is 90g/min (so so for steam generators). I was not given data for the steam boost output which is important for a deep crease removal. The heating time at start is 3 min. The machine does not have auto-calc cleaning.

Top of the range pressure ironing systems in Europe now have 5 bars of steam pressure for fast ironing (pressurised steam penetrates deep into fabrics making ironing fast and easy, even on difficult fabrics) and at least 120g/min of continuous steam output for fast crease removal. Steam boost blast is around or above 170g/min. Heating time is 2 minutes and the system has an auto cleaning program for calc. deposits.

To my mind, this Rowenta product performance criteria are in line with its price. I am very seriously considering purchasing it.

I hope this is useful. Happy ironing :-)

Toastmaster 3305 1200-Watt Steam and Dry Iron Review

Toastmaster 3305 1200-Watt Steam and Dry IronTotal waste of money. This iron barely worked for a few weeks, spitting water here and there. After the third week or so, the iron simply stopped working. Black & Decker F1000 Steam Advantage Iron, White Review

Black & Decker F1000 Steam Advantage Iron, WhiteI read the reviews of several more expensive irons, but they all seemed to have one or more fatal flaws and/or be outrageously expensive. This isn't my main iron, just the one in my laundry room, so I wasn't looking to spend tons of money. There are three features that I really don't like, but can live with given the low, low price.(The three problems are: the VERY poor visibility of the water window (mentioned by other reviewers), the settings dial is very small and hard to turn (it would be a truly fatal flaw for anyone with hand/finger strength or dexterity issues - beware!), and (just mentioned by another reviewer) the fact that when the iron's auto-turnoff acts, the only way to get the iron back on is to unplug it and plug it back in.This is not described well in the directions, at all, and I actually replaced the wall outlet before figuring out it was the iron, not a faulty outlet.)This iron heats up fine, though, and steams well...and again, given the low price, it's OK.

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer Brush Review

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer BrushI recently purchased this steamer and am very happy with it. It does a great job of taking wrinkles out of clothing. Most hand steamers do, so it just comes down to whether or not they perform as designed and what features and bells and whistles they come with. So far this Rowenta has performed very well for me and I love a lot of the little features and design touches as well.

PROS
--Pump driven steam results in stronger and steadier bursts than the types which merely boil the water
--Can be held at any angle. Some hand steamers only work when you hold them vertically. The pump mechanism in this unit means you can hold it however you like.
--Trigger lets you apply steam only when needed
--Removable bristle brush. Use the steamer with or without the brush
--Removable tank. Easier than refilling the whole steamer at the faucet
--Uses tap water. They actually recommend tap over distilled.
--Ergonomic handle. The curvature makes it very easy to hold and apply pressure to the clothes.
--Loop on handle. I can easily hang it up after use in the bathroom
--Comes with a convenient storage case

CONS
--The water tank is a little small, so you may have to refill it a few times. I got through about two lightly wrinkled shirts on one tank. This is about the only negative I can think of for this model.

Garment steamers may be new to many and I suspect some of the badreviews come from people who just don't know how to use them or have unrealistic expectations. They are not meant to completely replace an iron which may be more efficient for some heavy duty ironing tasks (for example if you like to iron your bed sheets or a similar type job). On the other hand, it can be used more easily than an iron for MOST of my ironing jobs -- and it can even go where my iron can't! For example, knits and sweaters. Ever try to iron a sweater? You can't. But I found this steamer can easily take wrinkles out of a sweater that was wrinkled due to storage as well as other knits that I wouldn't dare place an iron on. I wear a lot of knits, so discovering garment steamers has been a revelation for me.

Here are some tips -- 1) You do have to pull the fabric a little taut as you hold the head of the steamer against or near it to get good results. You have to pull harder on woven fabrics than with knits which you only have to tug a tiny bit. 2) I have an old ironing mitt, and I find it works great with the steamer. It acts like a mini ironing board and makes it easier to use the steamer as I can firmly press the head of it (without the brush attached) against some fabrics to get better results. 3) If you're having problems using the steamer, use it without the bristle brush attachment. With many fabrics and jobs, I get better results this way.

I've only had this Rowenta steamer for a month, so I don't know how well it will hold up over time. But so far I couldn't be happier. I've used it successfully so far on lots of types of clothing including cotton capris pants, cotton knit pique tops, and a medium weight synthetic knit sweater. I'm not big on ironing to begin with and do it as little as possible. But now with this little steamer I find myself touching up clothes more often whereas beforehand I'd just skip the iron because it was too much of a hassle to use.

One more thing: One reviewer said theirs leaked water. They must have a defective unit or are using it wrong because I don't get a drop of excess water anywhere with mine. Just pure steam. None of my clothing comes out "wet" either. I'm also baffled by another reviewer who said it burned their hand and the trigger area gets hot. I have no such problems. Yes, the steamer itself gets hot, but not so hot that I can't use it or it will cause injury (be careful with the steam though). It's mild compared to how hot an iron gets.

Rowenta DZ5080 Focus Stainless-Steel 1700-Watt Iron Review

Rowenta DZ5080 Focus Stainless-Steel 1700-Watt IronI've never been prompted to write a review of any product that I've purchased over the years, but the Rowenta Focus iron has changed all that. After 50-plus years of ironing, I thinkI've tried every iron on the market. And I've been dissatisfied with them all.My latest, a Black and Decker, remained on the same setting (the hottest), because it was NEVER hot enough.I wear a lot of cotton and linen, which, of course, means a lot of wrinkles.I've misted and starched (when appropriate) ahead of time, all to no avail.I was just about ready to go back to an all polyester wardrobe when I asked a tailor in my hometown to recommend a good iron.Without hesitation, she said, "Rowenta".So I read all the reviews I could find, and decided to take the plunge.

WOW!!!First of all, with my old Black and Decker, I'd have to iron a sleeve or panel of fabric in three or four passes. But with the Rowenta, it only took one pass to remove the wrinkles, even on linen.I quickly realized that my ironing time would be cut in half! And the narrow tip for getting inbetween buttons is genius-inspired.And the STEAM!!!For those who've said it consumes a lot of water, well---duh?? It TAKES a lot of water to produce that much steam.

If you've had it, as I did, with poorly fuctioning equipment, treat yourself to this product. You may just find yourself having a love affair with an appliance. What a joy!!

Black & Decker F67E The Classic Iron with Aluminum Soleplate Review

Black & Decker F67E The Classic Iron with Aluminum SoleplateMy mother used this iron in the '60's and after trying a bunch of different (and much more expensive) brands, I found this iron at a local store, and bought 2! These are heavy (an advantage when pressing lots of seams) and get very hot (Good for quilting cottons). I do not like auto-off, because I want my iron to stay hot. I have it plugged into an outlet that turns off when I turn off the lights as I leave the room, so this is not a problem. Love it.

Panasonic NI-W750TS 360-Degree Quick Multi-Directional Steam Iron, Silver and Black Review

Panasonic NI-W750TS 360-Degree Quick Multi-Directional Steam Iron, Silver and BlackThere are several things about the Panasonic Iron that I like, but there are a lot more things that I dislike about it.First, the things I did not like about it:

1.The Titanium soleplate:I like the smoothness of polished stainless steel soleplate much more than the titanium. While the titanium plate doesn't stick to the fabric, it doesn't glide as smoothly as stainless steel does.
2.The feel of the Iron:This iron, while light, feels very flimsy to me.It's very plastic, and I get a little nervous standing this iron up on the "tripod of legs" this iron has to accommodate the football shaped soleplate. Also, while ironing, the handle warms up more than other irons.
3.No digital readouts:Ever since owning the Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron, I've been spoiled by a digital screen and all the indicators that come with it.The Panasonic has a simple dial to control the temperature and that's about it.The auto shut off is indicated by an orange light.
4.Not a huge amount of steam gets dispensed:In comparison to other irons, this iron does not put out as much steam.

However, there were things that I did like about the Panasonic Iron that would almost justify the cost of this item:

1.Multidirectional soleplate:I loved the multidirectional soleplate.Because there are two "points" to iron with, I was able to get through more shirts quickly.
2.The aesthetic design:The Panasonic Iron looks streamlined and classy, unlike other irons.
3.Long cord:The power cord on this iron is amazing.I was able to iron a distance away from the outlet without tripping.

Overall, the only real reason I would get this iron is for that soleplate.Because there are two "pointed ends" to this iron, I was able to iron much more efficiently.Asides from that, the iron itself is only average.

Titanium-coated nonstick soleplate with curved, elliptical shape for smooth, effortless gliding.

Innovative Dual-Point Design

The iron's scratch-resistant, titanium-coated nonstick soleplate offers a unique elliptical shape for faster results. While conventional straight-backed soleplates may sometimes catch on fabric and actually create creases when moving backwards or side to side, the elliptical-shaped soleplate prevents creasing with points at either end, allowing for smooth, effortless gliding in any direction.

Multi-directional ironing delivers up to 25-percent faster results.
Vertical steam from all steam holes--great for curtains or hanging garments.
The iron's uniquely designed soleplate not only makes it possible to move backwards without fabric bunching up, but it also eliminates wasted motion (no need for several U-turns) and helps save time--up to 25-percent faster (when compared to conventional corded Panasonic irons). Furthermore, the bottom of the soleplate comes slightly curved to ensure smooth side-to-side movements, and the edge of the soleplate can always be viewed from above, which allows for precise control when ironing pleats, between buttons, and along seams.
The multi-directional iron also supplies 74 steam holes around the entire edge of the soleplate for efficient wrinkle removal, and its generous size quickly covers more surface area in less time--great for larger fabrics like curtains and tablecloths. Faster ironing means less effort required, lower energy costs, and more time to enjoy other activities.

Custom Control

The iron provides user-friendly controls that make it exceptionally easy to operate. Turn the temperature-control dial from low to high heat to accommodate anything from acrylic and silk to wool, cotton, or linen. The temperature-selector dial offers words, dots, and steam symbols for quickly identifying the desired amount of heat and/or steam. A single dot on the dial represents a low temperature, while the double and triple dot symbols indicate medium and high heat. Some fabrics come labeled with these dots as a handy reference guide for choosing the proper heat setting when ironing. For added convenience, the iron's jet-of-steam function delivers a powerful burst of steam to help remove stubborn wrinkles when ironing, plus it effectively cleans the steam vents when finished, which helps keep the iron in good working order. The iron also offers a gentler option--the spay-mist button, which delivers extra moisture where needed.
Use the iron on a flat surface for traditional ironing or hold it upright for vertically steaming out wrinkles from curtains or hanging garments--no ironing board required. For added versatility, the iron's adjustable steam button allows for selecting just the right amount of steam for the job. Choose from four steam settings: "high" steam for heavier fabrics, "medium" steam for touch-ups, "low" steam for delicate fabrics, or "dry" for no steam output.

Safety and Convenience

Electronic sensor shuts the iron off automatically if left inactive.
For safe operation and peace of mind, the iron will shut itself off automatically--no need to worry or head back home to double check. Its mercury-free electronic sensor automatically shuts the iron off after 10 minutes if left in the upright position. It will also turn the iron off after 60 seconds if it's left unmoved on its soleplate or tipped over on its side.
Other details include a fatigue-reducing ergonomic design that feels balanced in the hand for ultimate comfort; a transparent water tank with a 6-3/4-ounce capacity; an anti-calcium system that prevents clogged steam vents by reducing the sediment build-up in the vaporizing chamber of the iron; and an anti-drip system that prevents water spotting even at low temperatures. Awarded the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, the 1500-watt iron measures 10-4/5 by 4-7/8 by 5-7/8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Sunbeam 4235 Steam Master Iron with Stainless-Steel Soleplate Review

Sunbeam 4235 Steam Master Iron with Stainless-Steel SoleplateI had a comparable Shark that did a good job But....... It had a 3 point stand and was too unstable on my wobbly Ironing Board and kept falling off. This Sunbeam (Not the model with the retractable cord) has flat, wide base and is very stable. 3rd setting of 4 gives the perfect amount of steam where as the Shark was either too little or too much. The Blast of Steam works great in the verticle position to remove wrinkles on things you would not Iron. So far it has not dripped once. I'll sell the Shark at a Garage Sale.

Rowenta DX1700 Effective Iron Review

Rowenta DX1700 Effective IronI was a little nervous about the posts that gigged this particular Rowenta iron.. my lightweight Black & Decker has been with me awhile, and although it does a "decent" job of ironing it was a hassle in terms of the number of steam vents and the amount of time I had to spend on items to get them really looking decent.Because of the few lukewarm reviews on the $49 Rowena DX1700 iron, I decided to purchase it from my local Target (same price) because if it didn't out-perform my current iron, I was definitely planning to return it.Amazon is great in that respect.. being able to print a label, etc., but it meant a trip 4 cold blocks to the Post Office, and waiting for a credit to my account, etc.Target, on the other hand, is a short bus ride away and could instantly reverse the purchase.

I am really surprised!Honestly, this iron is phenomenal.. I don't do this kind of stuff for a living, so those of you who quilt/sew/press on a regular basis may have different standards; but because this so effortlessly took out wrinkles without any "pushing", I decided to do my whole wardrobe, which includes, by the way, a number of lightweight, 100% linen jackets.I couldn't believe my eyes.. there was a post about having to refill the water chamber more than once, but just isn't an issue for me as long as the job gets done fast and well.

If some of the stuff you love to wear is sitting in your sack of un-ironed favorites, and you don't wear it often because you can only wear it once before it needs another "iron-job", for pity's sake, order this guy.In a very small way, it will CHANGE one aspect of your life.I really can't say that much about most purchases!

Product Description:
For steam treatment on silk scarves, linen tablecloths, wool slacks, and more, Rowenta presents their Effective Steam Iron. The 1600-watt iron adapts for vertical use on curtains and long, hanging garments. The iron's translucent water reserve holds 8-1/2 ounces of water for conversion into steam bursts, mists and other steam patterns.
The steam iron features a polished stainless-steel soleplate that provides even heat to fabrics. Channeled steam holes along the soleplate ensure smooth movement. Steam holes in the soleplate's profile tip assist in ironing around buttons and in pleats. A soft covered handle resists slipping with ergonomic comfort. A special indicator monitors the tap water levels in the iron's anti-drip tank. After use, the iron cleans itself by flushing out any mineral or impure deposits collected through the ironing process, preventing calc build-up. For home safety, Rowenta designed the steam iron with three different automatic shutoff functions. The steam iron shuts down after 30 seconds resting horizontally, or if knocked over. If left idle sitting safely on its heel rest, the iron arrests power after 8 minutes to prevent overheating and wasted electricity. As with any electrical appliance, read the enclosed warnings and safety guidelines prior to use. The Germany-made iron benefits from a one-year limited warranty. The iron measures 11.9 by 6.6 by 5.6 inches and 55 ounces upon shipping.

Smartek 1200 Watt Self Cleaning Steam Iron Review

Smartek 1200 Watt Self Cleaning Steam IronWhen my old iron recently self destructed on me, (I didn't even know they had a self destruct switch) I popped onto Amazon and ordered up a new one.The first thing you'll notice is the nice price and the free shipping. That shipping I found out is also fast, I ordered it on a Wed morning and Thurs night it was waiting for me.It's a great basic iron for anyone who doesn't do a great deal of ironing. It's very light weight, although maybe a little too light, I've already knocked it off the counter a couple of times and the little arrow you set the temperature with is a little hard too see (picky, picky) but if you really only have to do a few shirts for work, it's perfect.

Panasonic NI-S650TR 1200-Watt Steam Iron with Curved Titanium-Coated Soleplate Review

Panasonic NI-S650TR 1200-Watt Steam Iron with Curved Titanium-Coated SoleplateI have gone through numerous irons and purchased a model from this line several years ago.LOVED IT.Had to buy a new one and could not find exact same model but this one seems to be the same, just newer. We have been using it for about a month and it is even better. We iron daily and I sew.Was making drapes when old one quit working. It is the best.

Now, the flip side is that you almost cannot see the water filling and have to be careful. They could design that much better. And, for some reason, it took Amazon forever to ship this item. But I would not have any other iron and it is worth the wait.

Black & Decker D5500 Digital Evolution 1500-Watt Steam Iron with Ceramic Soleplate Review

Black & Decker D5500 Digital Evolution 1500-Watt Steam Iron with Ceramic SoleplatePros:
-Flattens clothes in one pass.
-Excellent temperature control
-Sturdy construction.
-Smooth gliding ceramic sole plate.
-Nice rubber grip.

Cons:
-Awkward water filling.
-Must reset temp after unplugging.
-Not as stable in the upright position as the old T-Fal.
-No built in A/C unit to cool the user.

After a week of use my wife and I are very impressed with this iron as it seems to press clothing in just one pass compared to our 2 year old T-Fal.
As this is the first review I will explain a little about how this almost totally electronic iron works. After you plug it in you press the rubberized button to the left of the head until you reach your desired temperature. The temperature number, 1- 7, along with the type of fabric it is for appears in the window at the top of the head. Pressing the button to the right of the head lowers the temperature. The iron heats quickly and gives a soft beep when it is at the correct temperature. The steam feature is activated by pressing the rubberized button just below the window and an indicator flashes in the window. The steam works very well and of course there is a burst of steam button and a spray button on the top. The burst of steam button is on the right and the spray on the left which is backwards to me but I got used to it pretty quickly. The ceramic sole plate glides over clothing but if you have your temperature set too high for the material it will begin to stick, unlike the Teflon sole plate on the T-Fal which glided over everything at any temperature. This is probably a good thing as it keeps you from scorching your clothes. The rubberized grip is very positive and you have good control over the iron.
The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the water fill system. The iron must be filled in the horizontal position which means that you can't set it down to fill it without burning something. Also, the gray color of the water tank is very aesthetically pleasing but it makes it hard to see the water level in the tank and the full mark is meant to be read with the iron in the horizontal position instead of sitting on its tail. Unplugging it and taking it to the sink is the easiest way to fill it but when you plug it back in you must reset your temperature and steam settings again which is another annoyance that makes me knock it a bit.
Overall it is a good and sturdy iron which has already taken a fall to the floor and is no worse for the wear. Perhaps the 2030 with its mechanical settings and digital readout, as well as a vertical fill water tank, might have been a less annoying alternative but I think that we will be happy with this for years to come.

Rowenta DW8080 Pro Master Iron Review

Rowenta DW8080 Pro Master IronI work in the garment industry and have been using Rowenta irons (both at work and at home) for over 15 years. The best advice I can give anyone is that if you are going to spend the money for the Rowenta brand name, then make sure that the model you are buying says "MADE IN GERMANY".At one time all Rowenta irons were made in Germany, however several years ago as a cost cutting move, the company farmed out many of its lower price models to China. The difference in quality between the models made in Germany and China is quite dramatic.Every Rowenta German model I have owned or worked with has been mostly reliable, and each provided steady long term use.On the other hand, the lower priced models made in China are known to leak (both clear and brown water), drip, have uneven steam, and only last for a short time.I offer this not only as my own opinion; this is the general consensus among my industry colleagues as well.

My previous Rowenta home model just died after 10 years of service. After much research and comparison, I decided on this Rowenta Pro Maser DW-8080 model as a replacement.I have been using it for three weeks and so far am very happy with the purchase.

PROS:Great steam power (lots of it!)....even on the medium steam setting it produces enough for getting out wrinkles on linen and cotton. The iron gets out wrinkles in one pass, where my old iron may have taken two or three passes. The pointed nose makes it easy to get into corners. The iron uses regular tap water (unfiltered, straight out of the tap) and comes with a plastic pouring cup which is handy for filling.I have not experienced any dripping or leaking of any kind. The self-clean feature really works, it lets out a BLAST of steam and water that will flush out any particles.

CONS:Iron is a bit on the heavy side...it is substantial in your hand. The hand grip seems a bit short in length, and is positioned more towards the back of the unit, which makes the iron feel a bit front-long as you steer it around. The hinged lid covering the water fill hole has to be snapped shut; it requires a pretty good push to get it to snap (though that could be because the unit is new).

Despite the few flaws, I think that the Rowenta Pro Master is a great iron for home use.
I will update this review if anything changes :-)

Rowenta DW9080 Steamium 1800-Watt Steam Iron with 400-Hole Platinum Soleplate Review

Rowenta DW9080 Steamium 1800-Watt Steam Iron with 400-Hole Platinum SoleplateI must confess that I read through almost all the reviews of the other Rowenta Irons, and was on my way to purchasing the Advancer when I saw this new model.

First off, for people who are familiar with Rowenta irons, the ones made in Germany (as this one is) tend to be larger in size than an average iron.If you don't mind wielding a big iron, then you'll be ok with this one.The water chamber is also larger, so that adds to the weight when filled.

Secondly, it makes a great deal of difference whether the Rowenta is made in China or Germany.Since this one is German-made, you will have less trouble.I tend to stay away from anything made in China, especially when it combines electronics with water.Simply put, China's quality control still leaves a lot to be desired.

Third and most important:FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!Rowenta goes to great lengths on their website and user manual to recommend the following: DO NOT USE DISTILLED WATER. DO NOT USE BRITA WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM.They recommend BOTTLED Spring Water. You may use regular tap water if water in your state is "soft" (lacking in minerals). If you have to use regular TAP Water and you are not sure whether your tap water is hard or soft, contact your town hall OR go to Google and type in "water" "usgs" "gov"The first USGS website on top is the one created by the US Govt to show the hardness of water in your state. You want to type in "water hardness" when you are on that site, and a North American map showing water hardness by state will pop up. The harder your tap water (more minerals), the more you want to mix 50% of it with 50% "BOTTLED spring water."(Though I have seen the BOTTLED Spring water recommendation from Rowenta for all their earlier irons, the Steamium manual did not have it.)So I called up Rowenta and was advised that Bottled Spring Water is the only thing they recommend these days.Being a perfectionist when it comes to ironing, I use 100% bottled spring water to eliminate any doubt.

Why?Because unlike many regular irons, the higher end Rowentas have Anti-Calc features that break down the natural minerals in regular tap water. If you use distilled water, it goes against the mechanism and things start to go wrong.

Rowenta steam irons have been designed to operate using tap water, up to 12 grains of hardness per gallon (12 gr/gal or 205 mg/l or 2.05 mmol/litre)

The squarish platform in front of the handle (on the top) is a lit reading that shows you what setting you currently have it on.The light is green and it lights up the words "wool, linen, cotton, etc."

There is a trigger on the bottom of the handle (where your index finger is if you hold the iron). When you iron, you can squeeze it to create what Rowenta calls "forced steam" which pushes 30% more steam into the fabric. The trigger sets off a pump that makes a fairly audible whirring mechanical noise. It's important to note that if you have the iron plugged in and turned off, the trigger will still set the pump off.But it works. And it works very well.

The vertical steam also sets a nice burst of steam into your clothing. I notice that depending on the size of your hand, it is sometimes difficult to keep my finger off the forced steam trigger when I hold it vertically. However, if you accidentally press the trigger, it does not affect the burst of steam in any way. It's good for 5-7 squeezes before it needs to reheat, which is only several seconds. If you find the unit too heavy to hold up (when it is filled and vertical), you can use your other hand to hold the rear of the iron's handle for support.

The auto shut off works and stays blinking until you pull the plug from the wall outlet and re-insert it.This resets the auto-shut-off mechanism for the next detection.

The item comes with a tall slim plastic water spouted "pitcher" to help you pour water neatly into the iron. The front tip of the iron is extra pointed for getting perfect creases on shirt and pleat corners (the Rowenta Advancer and Focus also features this pointed front tip)

Remember to empty the water chamber after you are done ironing. As long as you follow the guidelines for the type of water and keep the iron empty when in storage, I think you will have a durable product.I think the leaking and problems complained by users of other Rowentas come from the calcium / mineral residue buildup inside the unit when hard / distilled / filtered water is used over a long period of time.

DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler Review

DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized BoilerApparently, I am one of the few remaining individuals who feel the need for freshly ironed clothing.I've always used steam irons, Rowenta most recently, with consistently disappointing results.Over the years, I've increased my use of spray starch to make up for the power I've believed should have originated in the iron. But no more!

After deciding I wasn't ready for a presser or a mangle for my clothing, and knowing I really didn't need to press that many tablecloths, I discovered a new genre: steam generating irons. And, after some significant research, I ordered this DeLonghi model.

It is truly a different beast than anything I've ever used! What steam production!!!The temperature of the iron sole plate is controlled independently from the quantity of steam desired.Tap water is actually recommended for use. The iron, while substantial in heft, is not heavy. And the old-fashioned looking cork handle is soft, smooth and cool to the touch.

But the bottom line is the job it does on my clothing and linen! While the ads say that this machine will cut your ironing time in half, I cannot say this is true.....mainly because I find myself taking the time to marvel over how each pass with the iron produces such a professional-looking surface!Really, the only thing that's been halved is my use of spray starch, which is an unforseen and welcome benefit!

Am I happy with my new "beast?"You bet! Would I buy another? No way....I suspect this well-designed machine is going to last me a long, long time. But can I recommend one for you?Without reservation!

The iron has a fully adjustable thermostat and steam flow to allow for perfect ironing on any type of fabric, and it can also be set for continous steam for vertical steaming of curtains, coats, etc. The professional cork handle provides hours of fatigue-free ironing, and the steam tube can be attached to either side of the boiler to accomodate either left- or right-handed people. SteamFast SF-717 Home-and-Away Mini Steam Ironwe took this on a recent cruise and it worked great for our needs..was pleased by the ample length of the cord, which made it easy to use without an extension cord on most occasions..had a little trouble getting the steam function to work evenly.. design fits in hand well and allows cord to wtap around conveniently..did not need it, but like the dual voltage settings...is a great product; small, easy to use, and works great!

Product Description:
Steam out wrinkles quickly and easily with this 1200-watt iron. The unit's stainless-steel curved nonstick soleplate provides smooth, gentle gliding, and its temperature ranges from 176 to 392 degrees F to accommodate a variety of different fabrics. Turn the temperature dial to choose from five fabric settings; a handy reference chart for fabrics and temperatures comes printed on the iron's base. For added convenience, use the iron's push-button spray mist to direct extra moisture where it's needed most or the jet-of-steam function for a powerful burst of steam to blast away stubborn wrinkles--or to clean the steam vents after ironing. Its adjustable steam allows for selecting the right amount of steam for the job--regular steam for heavier material or light steam for quick touch-ups; or choose the "dry" setting for no steam output. With the push of a button, the iron can also be used to vertically steam drapery, hanging garments, and other household items. To ensure safety, its electronic sensor automatically shuts off the iron after 10 minutes if left upright on its heel rest or after 60 seconds if left unmoved on its soleplate or if tipped over on its side. Other highlights include a see-through 5-2/5-ounce water tank that detaches for easy filling, an anti-calcium system that keeps vents free from build-up, and a push-button retractable cord reel for tidy cord storage. Panasonic NI-S300TR 1200-Watt Steam Iron with Curved Titanium-Coated Soleplate, White/Green Review

Panasonic NI-S300TR 1200-Watt Steam Iron with Curved Titanium-Coated Soleplate, White/GreenSo far I've used this on pattern paper and several different types of fabric. It has a nice weight that you can allow to do most of the work for you, and it has a wonderful grip. It is fairly easy to fill the tank, and if you use a 3/4 cup measure to do it, you'll be just under Max - the tank is just over 6 oz.

It glides beautifully over my fabric, though I had to be a little careful with the paper, since this iron is fairly well weighted. It has both a spray button and a steam button, and a simple switch between dry, some steam, lots of steam.

The retractable cord is a wonderful thing and works very well. Blessed thing to have when there are curious animals that like to chew on cords or anything string-like. Makes for neat storage, too!

Heats quickly, and reheats quickly if it has shut itself off. It gives you 10 minutes if it is in the upright position, so that is plenty fine.

I love this iron!
