I was concerned about the couple of negative reviews on this irons that said that certain features didn't work correctly or it wasn't ergonomic. But, rolled the dice on it anyway. I've since discovered this iron is in fact the great buy it appears to be - it just takes a little bit of learning about because the features are slightly different from some other models.So here's my thoughts on some of the negative comments and some of the features I've really learned to appreciate:
1) I found the automatic shut-off does work very well.But, unlike many other models it stays on long enough that if you stop to do something else or are doing something else for 15 minutes or so it will still be on and ready to use.(The first time this made me think it didn't work) But, it doesn't stay on long enough to burn the house down. (The power light blinks and continues to do so when it turns itself off, until you start ironing again.
2) It is heavy. It is not as heavy as my old one - but very sturdy.I find it comfortable to use - or as comfortable as I'm ever going to be ironing - something I hate doing.
3) The steam features are very well designed.A symbol on the selector for the type of cloth you are ironing coordinates to the steam settings.There's a handy heavy-steam button - that a few quick pushes of adds the extra hmmph you need for those REALLY, REALLY wrinkled pieces.
4) The retractable cord is great - and mine has worked after repeated uses. However, the first time I used it I didn't notice there was an almost hidden button in the design that you push to get it to automatically retract. I think others may have had the same issue.The water level is much more visible than many irons which have just a small line - you can see the water throughout the blue part of this iron.
5) Unlike my last iron - this one is either self-cleaning or somehow stopping the black guck that can form on the iron plate.
The only reason I don't give it 5-stars is that even though it's great for the price - I still would have liked to have one of those that have the removable water dispenser, so you don't have to pour water in it (I just didn't want to pay for that version).Even with the complimentary filling bottle it's still not a great way to put water in it.
All in all, I think this is a great iron for the price.
