Product Description:
For wrinkle-free garments on the road, Conair designed this compact hand-held fabric steamer. An adjustable temperature control allows the 1000-watt steamer to treat crumpled silk scarves and linen slacks alike. The handheld format suits vertical steaming in particular, though the included soleplate also enables conventional horizontal steam ironing. The inclusion of a lint brush attachment allows the removal of stray hairs, felt, and other lint build-up from blazers and dresses while on the road.
Prior to steaming, the user fills the water reserve with tap water. The steamer rests safely on an elevated kickstand while water heats. An indicator light on the appliance illuminates that the water has reached the desired steaming temperature. The flip of a trigger switch engages continuous steaming. A padded and slip-resistant handle affords ergonomic comfort and security. Conair equipped the steamer with dual voltage to ensure its utility around the world, despite the powercord's USA-compatible plug. For storage, the user either hangs the steamer by its installed hanging loop or stows it in the included travel bag. A cover protects the soleplate's surface while not in use. As with any electrical appliance, read the enclosed warnings and safety guidelines prior to use. Conair offers a limited warranty for this item. The imported steamer weighs 4 pounds upon shipping.

SteamFast Compact Fabric Steamer - SF-435W Review

SteamFast Compact Fabric Steamer - SF-435WHello - I am in no way related to the SteamFast company.I have owned two other travel/compact steamers:

Jiffy, which makes a very good steamer as well, however, it is more than twice the money and, although I had their compact steamer for at least six years, I didn't use it very much (as I had their industrial steamer) and recently the heater unit on it broke. So I'm not sure that their quality is so good unless I got a lemon.Additionally, the Jiffy model is slightly larger than the SteamFast model.

The other model I used was a Franzus and the only thing better about this one was it's size.As a steamer it doesn't perform well at all.

The SteamFast Compact Fabric Steamer SF-435W does a very good job (just as good as Jiffy, if not better) at steaming out wrinkles - it has more steaming holes than Jiffy - (though if you want a super crisp look nothing replaces an iron), it's price is great for the quality, and it's a bit smaller than the Jiffy.I'd like to see them make this unit at least a couple of inches smaller but it's still a great unit.In my opinion, this unit can be used at home (especially since home units are much more expensive and take up a lot of room) or for traveling.A very good product.I highly recommend it.(I also recommend using distilled or purified water in clothes steamers whenever possible as it will extend the life of the unit.)

Conair GS15RN Handheld Fabric Steamer Review

Conair GS15RN Handheld Fabric SteamerI am VERY disappointed with this product. It is not powerful enought to remove the wrinkles from clothing. The only way I found to get it to do a fairly decent job is to stretch the piece of clothing downward as it hangs, and rub the fabric with the brush on the steamer while steaming, going over and over the same spot. It's like trying to iron vertically, only with no support behind the article of clothing. It doesn't remove wrinkles nearly as well as an iron, especially if there are any unwanted creases, and it takes considerably longer than ironing, since you have to steam the same spot over and over again.I bought the steamer because it uses tap water, and distilled water is a hastle to find when travelling, but tap water eventually causes irons to leave mineral deposits on clothing. Instead of this product, I recommend a standard iron or travel iron. It's easier to travel with a travel iron and just use a spray bottle filled with tap water to mist the clothes if you don't have distilled water to fill the iron with. The Conair GS15 Hand Held Fabric Steamer is a waste of money that doesn't do its job.

Smartek Travel Iron Review

Smartek Travel IronI bought this relatively inexpensive travel Iron for my trip through Europe. I tested it at home and it was ok. I got to Europe and switched to the European voltage and it got so hot so quickly that I almost burned myself. The controls dont work very well. It either gets way too hot or not hot enough. Doesnt get the wrinkles out very well either.

Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam Iron Review

Rowenta DA-75 Steam ' n Press Dual-Voltage Travel Steam IronMy wife and I had a pretty nice Rowenta steamer that we got as a wedding gift about 4 years ago.Well, that one didn't have the dual voltage switch and when we were in Europe, we basically fried it (our fault - we thought the converter would work with it, but apparently not).Anyway, we replaced it with this model last fall.Big mistake. The first thing I noticed is this one is made in Mexico, the old one was made in Germany. Also much cheaper quality - the parts, the fit and finish. We turned it on and it never heated up.Took it back and brought #2 home. This one heated up, got so hot that it emitted a scary smell (like when you clean an oven) and the plastic cover plate got too hot to the touch.Based on reading the manual and the website, I don't think this is supposed to happen. At any rate, we were never able to get it to emit steam, no matter how long we waited or how much we pressed the button.Back to the store to exchange it for #3.This time we made the clerk try it out to see if it was just us.It wasn't.None of the store personnel were able to get it to work. When they gave us a new one, I asked them to try it as well.Same result. They had to open yet another new one out of the box (we're up to #4 now, if you're still trying to keep count) which worked.Admittedly I was pretty leery at this point, but we were leaving on a trip in less than a week and they stocked no other steamer models. So I took it home and it went with us to Japan.Worked fine the first few times, but after about a week of travel it began to fall apart. Now it leaks profusely and the steam output is about half what it once was.I contacted Rowenta but the hassle to box this thing up, send it to the service center in San Diego, etc. is just not worth it to me.Needless to say, I am through with buying Rowenta.

Rowenta Steam 'n Press Steambrush Iron DA-65 Review

Rowenta Steam 'n Press Steambrush Iron DA-65First of all, I *did* think highly of Rowenta and to be very honest... I still think they make great steam irons, probably some of the best on the market. However, this particular product has left a bad taste in my mouth that comes very close to ruining my total faith in Rowenta. Like most people, I would sacrifice paying a little more knowing that in return I would get a sound product. That was my initial feeling considering that the Conair handheld steamers are almost half to a third less than these. However, the "Steam N' Press" falls far short of any reasonable expectations. Not only did it fail me... it failed twice in a row. At this moment I'm preparing for a few business trips and need a steamer for my iron sensitive clothing. I should've heeded the warnings here on Amazon and looked past this steamer since the other model (DA-75) got such bad reviews. But, since it did have the dual voltage feature and 2 large local retailers sold the device I went ahead and purchased it (from the store that rhymes with drys). When I got home I was eager to test it out since my first trip is at the end of this week. Put water into the steamer, waited a minute, waited two minutes, waited a couple more minutes... nothing, not even a drop. Pressed the button a few times and it began to spit rather than steam, in fact no steam came out of it. I thought, "Oh great, it doesn't work!" It did get quite hot and as an iron it would probably be okay but this is not why I bought it! So... I return it that same day to exchange for another thinking... "What are the chances that two won't work?" And, guess what?... I think those chances are pretty good since the same thing happened. Anyway, to cut a long story short, returned the steamer and didn't feel up to test the 3rd time's a charm theory. Who knows, maybe it was a bad batch, but it's hard to believe that any of the previous "made in germany" irons would fail this much. Btw, the iron did have a sticker that stated that it might still contain water from the "factory test". Obviously, I had quite a laugh at the "Iron"y.

Italsteam Light Weight Travel Steam Iron - Dual Voltage Review

Italsteam Light Weight Travel Steam Iron - Dual VoltageI bought one from a mall kiosk. Problems: (1) black water will get on your clothes if you are not careful to rinse it out each time. (2) You have to refill it 2 or 3 times for each shirt. (3) The unit gets very hot and if you are not careful to only touch the handle, you will get burned. (4) It takes more power the more salt you put in it. It would dim my lights and it can easily blow a fuse.

Jiffy Steamer ESTEAM Travel Steamers Review

Jiffy Steamer ESTEAM Travel SteamersThis light weight travel steamer has saved me many dollars. For the price of what I would have paid a hotel valet service to press my suitcase wrinkled clothes I could probably have room service breakfasts! The Esteam made quick work of the folds in a gabardine skirt, and spiffed up the collars of many a blouse and jacket.

While Esteam has become a must-have for our travel, it has also become a standby at home.We do have the J-2000 which is great, but because of the easy maneuverability of the hand held steamer I find that we use it more often.

Try as I might, a steam iron was leaving shiny spots on a taffeta skirt. The steamer smooths wrinkles with no trace whatsoever. There is a silk table skirt that we love but it was impossible to get it home from the cleaners unwrinkled - Esteam to the rescue. The uses we've found for it are countless. It's simply one of those household items we now wonder how we ever did without.

We like the wide mouth on the water tank, which makes it easy to fill and the fact that we can use plain or distilled water. The handle is ergonomically friendly, and the nine foot cord allows us to move about as much as needed.

Thanks to Jiffy Esteamer wrinkles are no longer a pressing issue for us!

Handheld Steamer Review

Handheld SteamerThis is the first steamer I've purchased. I've used it a few times so far and it works quite well, especially compared to a similarly priced iron. The great thing is that this does not make contact with the clothing like an iron does. I ruined a good pair of pants with an iron recently and I know with a steamer I won't have this problem. This particular model seems to be built pretty well with a long, durable, three-pronged electrical cord. I would recommend this product to anyone. I don't give it five stars because it takes a little longer to remove wrinkles than I thought--but this is only a small gripe.

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer Brush Review

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer BrushI recently purchased this steamer and am very happy with it. It does a great job of taking wrinkles out of clothing. Most hand steamers do, so it just comes down to whether or not they perform as designed and what features and bells and whistles they come with. So far this Rowenta has performed very well for me and I love a lot of the little features and design touches as well.

PROS
--Pump driven steam results in stronger and steadier bursts than the types which merely boil the water
--Can be held at any angle. Some hand steamers only work when you hold them vertically. The pump mechanism in this unit means you can hold it however you like.
--Trigger lets you apply steam only when needed
--Removable bristle brush. Use the steamer with or without the brush
--Removable tank. Easier than refilling the whole steamer at the faucet
--Uses tap water. They actually recommend tap over distilled.
--Ergonomic handle. The curvature makes it very easy to hold and apply pressure to the clothes.
--Loop on handle. I can easily hang it up after use in the bathroom
--Comes with a convenient storage case

CONS
--The water tank is a little small, so you may have to refill it a few times. I got through about two lightly wrinkled shirts on one tank. This is about the only negative I can think of for this model.

Garment steamers may be new to many and I suspect some of the badreviews come from people who just don't know how to use them or have unrealistic expectations. They are not meant to completely replace an iron which may be more efficient for some heavy duty ironing tasks (for example if you like to iron your bed sheets or a similar type job). On the other hand, it can be used more easily than an iron for MOST of my ironing jobs -- and it can even go where my iron can't! For example, knits and sweaters. Ever try to iron a sweater? You can't. But I found this steamer can easily take wrinkles out of a sweater that was wrinkled due to storage as well as other knits that I wouldn't dare place an iron on. I wear a lot of knits, so discovering garment steamers has been a revelation for me.

Here are some tips -- 1) You do have to pull the fabric a little taut as you hold the head of the steamer against or near it to get good results. You have to pull harder on woven fabrics than with knits which you only have to tug a tiny bit. 2) I have an old ironing mitt, and I find it works great with the steamer. It acts like a mini ironing board and makes it easier to use the steamer as I can firmly press the head of it (without the brush attached) against some fabrics to get better results. 3) If you're having problems using the steamer, use it without the bristle brush attachment. With many fabrics and jobs, I get better results this way.

I've only had this Rowenta steamer for a month, so I don't know how well it will hold up over time. But so far I couldn't be happier. I've used it successfully so far on lots of types of clothing including cotton capris pants, cotton knit pique tops, and a medium weight synthetic knit sweater. I'm not big on ironing to begin with and do it as little as possible. But now with this little steamer I find myself touching up clothes more often whereas beforehand I'd just skip the iron because it was too much of a hassle to use.

One more thing: One reviewer said theirs leaked water. They must have a defective unit or are using it wrong because I don't get a drop of excess water anywhere with mine. Just pure steam. None of my clothing comes out "wet" either. I'm also baffled by another reviewer who said it burned their hand and the trigger area gets hot. I have no such problems. Yes, the steamer itself gets hot, but not so hot that I can't use it or it will cause injury (be careful with the steam though). It's mild compared to how hot an iron gets.
