Product Description:
For wrinkle-free garments on the road, Conair designed this compact hand-held fabric steamer. An adjustable temperature control allows the 1000-watt steamer to treat crumpled silk scarves and linen slacks alike. The handheld format suits vertical steaming in particular, though the included soleplate also enables conventional horizontal steam ironing. The inclusion of a lint brush attachment allows the removal of stray hairs, felt, and other lint build-up from blazers and dresses while on the road.
Prior to steaming, the user fills the water reserve with tap water. The steamer rests safely on an elevated kickstand while water heats. An indicator light on the appliance illuminates that the water has reached the desired steaming temperature. The flip of a trigger switch engages continuous steaming. A padded and slip-resistant handle affords ergonomic comfort and security. Conair equipped the steamer with dual voltage to ensure its utility around the world, despite the powercord's USA-compatible plug. For storage, the user either hangs the steamer by its installed hanging loop or stows it in the included travel bag. A cover protects the soleplate's surface while not in use. As with any electrical appliance, read the enclosed warnings and safety guidelines prior to use. Conair offers a limited warranty for this item. The imported steamer weighs 4 pounds upon shipping.

Rowenta IS9100 Commercial Garment Steamer Review

Rowenta IS9100 Commercial Garment SteamerI recently returned the Rowenta Pro Compact steamer in exchange for this "commercial" steamer.

It certainly is a big improvement. The extra 150 watts of steaming power makes a noticeable difference.

There are several features that make this a wonderful unit. The large 1 gallon water tank is clear and easy to remove and refill. The on/off switch and the automatic cord reel are both foot actuated. There are two onboard accessories bins that keep the attachments from disappearing. The steam is powerful, plentiful and literally rolling out in 60 seconds. Also, the unit is quite sturdy.

Unfortunately, there are a few design flaws and disappointing problems. The two large wheels do not roll on my hardwood floors nor on my carpet. Instead as you drag the machine it leaves a nice trail of marks on the floor. The telescoping handles are not secured into the base of the machine and pull out when you attempt to lift the machine. Also, this unit did not come with a handy plastic brush attachment that the cheaper unit did.

Having said all this, the Rowenta Precision Valet Steamer does a wonderful job of removing stubborn wrinkle quickly and easily.

Rowenta DG5030 Pressure Iron and Steamer Review

Rowenta DG5030 Pressure Iron and SteamerI purchased Model DG5030 to replace my old Rowenta Pressure Iron and Steamer (with blue water tank). My old iron was perfect and I expected this new one to be even better. However, much to my chagrin, it has two major defects:no matter what the iron temperature or steam settings, water drips (sometimes quite a bit) onto the fabric to be ironed. Also, since the water tank is completely enclosed, one cannot see how much water remains in the tank.Upon contacting Rowenta, I was told that these 2 defects are being "duly noted" in their customer files and that I was not the only consumer to complain.I am greatly disappointed that a company with the stature of Rowenta would not either offer to fix the iron, considering its cost or let me return it.I have written and e-mailed them with the further information that I knew of several other consumers with the same problem(s) so this iron obviously needs re-designing.Until these problems are addressed, I would not advise purchasing this model.

Home Touch PS-200 Perfect Steam Commercial Garment Steamer Review

Home Touch PS-200 Perfect Steam Commercial Garment Steamer(Updating my review after 6 mos of use.) I've found the Homemedics PS-200 "Perfect Steam" has been fine for all types of clothing. This is the smallest, value-priced model, so I wouldn't expect it have enough steam for thick upholstery or to press creases and folds (It's upright.Commercial steamers don't do this either without a flat surface! They're for removing wrinkles- not pressing clothes.)I bought it to use instead of a steam iron- and for the same price, it's faster and easier. It has worked for denim jeans, suits, blankets, wrinkled khakis and dress shirts.Read the manual for tips- it helps to have the pole all the way up.When the hose starts to gurgle, water is condensing in the hose.Just hold the hose straight up and let the water drip back into the tank. The manual says this is normal and the condensation does not affect the steam.I find it's ready in 15 seconds! Also, steam runs consistently when the clothing is hung higher than the pole- meaning I have to hang clothing from the top of a door frame or shower rod.The hose is long enough to reach but (obviously) the pole could have been made to extend a foot taller. It's small enough to fit inside my tiny closet.Distilled water is a must in Colorado. The water does need to be emptied out after each use or else mildew/mold will form. You may have to lift and tip the unit over a sink and shake the hose to completely empty.I was expecting much less for the price and was pleasantly surprised.

Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact Steamer Review

Rowenta IS1430 1400-Watt Pro Compact SteamerI think this machine is great. First off, it's nice and compact. Your able to hide the power cord underneath the base of the unit, the hose easily wraps around the top portion and the head of the steamer slides into place so it's not dangling off the unit. Included in the box is astorage bag for your attachments, so you don't lose them. I used this just last night to steam a sueded slip cover for a couch that's been in a bag for over 2 years and it worked like a dream, it took out every wrinkle. It heated up very quickly and produced enough steam to get out any wrinkle. It did get a tad hot around the head of the steamer if you kept your hand there too long, also it makes a gurgling noise as it heats up, but that dissipates after it's up and running. Other than that, it's a great item. I would totally buy another one. If I may dispense some advice (I worked in retail for several years and worked with professional steamers on a daily basis. If you have light garments like silks, cover the steamer head with a knee hi or stocking to protect the garment from oversteaming whatever elements are in the water and always steam from the inside of your garment - never on the outside. Rowenta is a really good name and usually produce good quality items. I almost didn't buy this because of some of the reviews. I guess you take a chance on everything you buy.

Product Description:
Taking only a couple minutes to heat up, this compact 1400-watt steamer delivers powerful steam output for removing wrinkles from clothes, upholstery, drapes, and more. The steamer's large 33-ounce water tank holds enough water for 30 minutes of steaming, plus it can be refilled through its wide reservoir opening at any time during use for continuous steam. In addition, the unit features a soft yet durable fabric hose with a 360-degree swivel base for steam from any angle and a wide steam head for broad steam distribution. Accessories include an upholstery brush used to aid steam penetration into difficult, heavy fabrics; a lint pad used to remove hair, lint, and animal fur for a professional finish; a fabric brush used to open weaves of the fabrics for better steam penetration; a crease attachment to help make sharp creases easily and help remove stubborn wrinkles; as well as a door hook for use on any door to hang clothes while vertically steaming.
Other highlights include a maximum-capacity indicator to prevent overfilling, a hose that locks/releases at the touch of a button, and a lightweight design at only 4-1/2 pounds. Convenient to carry, set up, and use, the unit provides an easy-grip carrying handle on top, a cool-touch hose that wraps around the base, steam-head storage on the side, and wrap-around cord storage around the base. With its well-balanced ergonomic design, the steamer measures approximately 15 by 10-1/2 by 9-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Steam Fast SF-680 Digital Fabric Steam Press Review

Steam Fast SF-680 Digital Fabric Steam PressWell, after two months of waiting, my 680 arrived. It was my Christmas present to myself. What had happened was the manufacturer didn't make enough of them last year. Demand far exceeded (incongruously) supply. That is why amazon, cyebye, smallappliances.com, and others had you on hold. I actually sent Top Innovations a griping email about the delays--this is how I found out what the situation was. By the way, Customer Service at TI is nothing less than outstanding! The first sentence from their department was this: "You are right. We need to do a better job of...." Imagine that. A company that still lives by the age old American adage--'the customer is always right.'
Oh, if you're looking for the best price on the product--it's Cyebye--providing you don't live in NY (otherwise, you'll pay the tax). $219.00. And, that company's Customer Service is also pleasant to deal with. That's why I stuck with them (well, okay... more for the price than anything else).
After tearing into my box like a lil' boy getting a birthday gift (mine is March 8th, case you want to send me something), I couldn't get the machine working fast enough. Design-wise, it's both sleek and very pleasing to the eye. Doesn't weigh too much and is easily portable.
Now the cons.
First thing I noticed was the tremendous jolting upswing the unit has when you elevate the top plate from the ironing board. It jerks the unit UP and BACK! You need to be cognizant of this. If you place this unit on the TI steamer stand, make certain you always keep one foot on the stand's base. Otherwise, the machine will dive backwards. That's how much upward force we're talking about here.
Next is the irritating shutoff safety feature. On "top line" models, these features should not be installed--or, at least have them as a programmable option. If you leave the machine unattended for about 8-10 mins, it will go into "standby" mode. Meaning, the heating temperature that you waited at least 10 minutes for it to build up will vanish. And, reactivation isn't as simple as just using the machine. You either have to turn it off then back on, or, scroll through the power temperature settings. Did I mention this was annoying?
Thirdly, not enough pressing power for thinner garments. I steam pressed two Italian cotton shirts and I was expecting extremely crisp presses. It does that for the sleeves (which is, of course, 2 materials thick), but, you will not get that same effect for the back or front of the shirt. The solution, place a thick towel over the board--place your thin shirt on that. Also note that thinner materials will acquire what I call "hole puffs" in them. The steaming plate has holes from where the steam exudes. Your thinner materials will periodically have those hole indentations on them. Rub them with your finger and they vanish.
This may or may not be a con. But, when it comes to the steam burst operation... it's LOUD. It gurgles and also spews water droplets as well. {Note that the feature advertisement on this site reads, "Dual vaporizing system significantly reduces water droplets". I wonder how TI defines "reduces".) Meaning, KEEP YOUR FACE AWAY FROM THE UNIT when activating the steam burst.
Another con deals with the instructions. Though simply annotated, it always stumps me when the writers/editors decide to use metric measurements (all of a suddenly) when the rest of the manual pertains to non-metric numbers. The section I'm talking about pertains to the steam burst mode. It states to lower the press no lower than 75mm from the board. 75mm? I don't mind the metric system because I'm fluent with it. But most Americans are not. (75mm is about 3 inches, by the way.)
Another con pertains to the display panel. The manual states that when the light deactivates (at the particular heat setting you're at--e.g., cotton, silk, etc.), then the machine is ready for use. Well, I just spent 90 minutes pressing nothing but cotton. And, if I adhered to what it states in the manual, that 90 minutes would have easily evolved into 120 minutes! That cotton indicator light is consistently going on, than it is remaining off. I would almost venture to state that it spends more time on the former rather than the latter.
The final con is the warranty. One measly year! That disappoints me tremendously. When you fork out more than $200 for a machine, 3 year warranty should be the minimum. Especially... ESPECIALLY with a digital product-which is what this is. One year warranty is insulting and doesn't speak well for TI (in my humble opinion).
Other than that... there are indeed ample pros for this machine. Compared to ironing or steaming, this press wins hands down. It's 3-4 times swifter than ironing because of 3 elements: large surface area of the machine, the tremendous heat, and, the steam burst function (remember to keep your face away from the 680 when using steam burst). The machine also appears easy to maintain and clean. The manual states to use distilled water. You probably should do as it states--because I'm certain the heating coil and other components are quite delicate inside. Non-distilled water usually equates to faster corrosion development--depending on your state of residency (drinking water). Florida, which is definitely a "hard water" town, definitely purchase distilled.
If I think of anything else, I'll come back and annotate. In the interim, the machine does what it says it'll do. But, I don't think it's the best one (home user models) out there. I could be wrong. I will keep this model, nonetheless.
Hope this helps....

Jiffy Steamer ESTEAM Travel Steamers Review

Jiffy Steamer ESTEAM Travel SteamersThis light weight travel steamer has saved me many dollars. For the price of what I would have paid a hotel valet service to press my suitcase wrinkled clothes I could probably have room service breakfasts! The Esteam made quick work of the folds in a gabardine skirt, and spiffed up the collars of many a blouse and jacket.

While Esteam has become a must-have for our travel, it has also become a standby at home.We do have the J-2000 which is great, but because of the easy maneuverability of the hand held steamer I find that we use it more often.

Try as I might, a steam iron was leaving shiny spots on a taffeta skirt. The steamer smooths wrinkles with no trace whatsoever. There is a silk table skirt that we love but it was impossible to get it home from the cleaners unwrinkled - Esteam to the rescue. The uses we've found for it are countless. It's simply one of those household items we now wonder how we ever did without.

We like the wide mouth on the water tank, which makes it easy to fill and the fact that we can use plain or distilled water. The handle is ergonomically friendly, and the nine foot cord allows us to move about as much as needed.

Thanks to Jiffy Esteamer wrinkles are no longer a pressing issue for us!

Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment Steamer Review

Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment SteamerI'll make it simple: If you are looking for a home-edition garment steamer, your top 2 choices in the marketplace will likely be the Jiffy 2000 and the Rowenta 8100.

I tested both for 10 hours; on a 1 to 10 scale:

Jiffy (Looks = 6; Engineering = 10; Handling = 9; Craftsmanship = 10).
It looks like a mop bucket on wheels but it performs like a jet engine; every part of this machine from the plate at the bottom of the unit to the steam handle is built for rugged usage.

Rowenta (Looks = 10; Engineering = 5; Handling = 7; Crafsmanship = 4).
It looks like a UFO but performs like a Pinto with much less steaming power; it is built as a toddler's toy having most parts made with inexpensive plastic including the watertank base and valve: pull the machine a single foot OR tilt it a mere 1 inch and you will experience a slow-building cascade.

Buy the Rowenta 8100 as a decorative piece to make your closet look good.

Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam Generator Review

Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam GeneratorSteam generator irons are very common in Europe (where I am from originally) and buyers are provided with extra information that to my mind makes a huge difference in the purchasing decision. In the United States, however, few models exist and compete on the market and this data may not be so helpful as there is not much choice besides the Rowenta line (of 2). I suspect consumers iron less in this country and make more use of cleaners' services. However, I thought I'd share the information I found for the benefit of European buyers, more sophisticated buyers or more thorough minded buyers.

Rowenta was kind enough to give me the information I was looking for after some inquiry with their technical department. Here it is: the steam pressure is 4 bars (pretty good) and the continuous steam flow is 90g/min (so so for steam generators). I was not given data for the steam boost output which is important for a deep crease removal. The heating time at start is 3 min. The machine does not have auto-calc cleaning.

Top of the range pressure ironing systems in Europe now have 5 bars of steam pressure for fast ironing (pressurised steam penetrates deep into fabrics making ironing fast and easy, even on difficult fabrics) and at least 120g/min of continuous steam output for fast crease removal. Steam boost blast is around or above 170g/min. Heating time is 2 minutes and the system has an auto cleaning program for calc. deposits.

To my mind, this Rowenta product performance criteria are in line with its price. I am very seriously considering purchasing it.

I hope this is useful. Happy ironing :-)

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer Brush Review

Rowenta DR5020 Ultra Steam 800-Watt Handheld Steamer BrushI recently purchased this steamer and am very happy with it. It does a great job of taking wrinkles out of clothing. Most hand steamers do, so it just comes down to whether or not they perform as designed and what features and bells and whistles they come with. So far this Rowenta has performed very well for me and I love a lot of the little features and design touches as well.

PROS
--Pump driven steam results in stronger and steadier bursts than the types which merely boil the water
--Can be held at any angle. Some hand steamers only work when you hold them vertically. The pump mechanism in this unit means you can hold it however you like.
--Trigger lets you apply steam only when needed
--Removable bristle brush. Use the steamer with or without the brush
--Removable tank. Easier than refilling the whole steamer at the faucet
--Uses tap water. They actually recommend tap over distilled.
--Ergonomic handle. The curvature makes it very easy to hold and apply pressure to the clothes.
--Loop on handle. I can easily hang it up after use in the bathroom
--Comes with a convenient storage case

CONS
--The water tank is a little small, so you may have to refill it a few times. I got through about two lightly wrinkled shirts on one tank. This is about the only negative I can think of for this model.

Garment steamers may be new to many and I suspect some of the badreviews come from people who just don't know how to use them or have unrealistic expectations. They are not meant to completely replace an iron which may be more efficient for some heavy duty ironing tasks (for example if you like to iron your bed sheets or a similar type job). On the other hand, it can be used more easily than an iron for MOST of my ironing jobs -- and it can even go where my iron can't! For example, knits and sweaters. Ever try to iron a sweater? You can't. But I found this steamer can easily take wrinkles out of a sweater that was wrinkled due to storage as well as other knits that I wouldn't dare place an iron on. I wear a lot of knits, so discovering garment steamers has been a revelation for me.

Here are some tips -- 1) You do have to pull the fabric a little taut as you hold the head of the steamer against or near it to get good results. You have to pull harder on woven fabrics than with knits which you only have to tug a tiny bit. 2) I have an old ironing mitt, and I find it works great with the steamer. It acts like a mini ironing board and makes it easier to use the steamer as I can firmly press the head of it (without the brush attached) against some fabrics to get better results. 3) If you're having problems using the steamer, use it without the bristle brush attachment. With many fabrics and jobs, I get better results this way.

I've only had this Rowenta steamer for a month, so I don't know how well it will hold up over time. But so far I couldn't be happier. I've used it successfully so far on lots of types of clothing including cotton capris pants, cotton knit pique tops, and a medium weight synthetic knit sweater. I'm not big on ironing to begin with and do it as little as possible. But now with this little steamer I find myself touching up clothes more often whereas beforehand I'd just skip the iron because it was too much of a hassle to use.

One more thing: One reviewer said theirs leaked water. They must have a defective unit or are using it wrong because I don't get a drop of excess water anywhere with mine. Just pure steam. None of my clothing comes out "wet" either. I'm also baffled by another reviewer who said it burned their hand and the trigger area gets hot. I have no such problems. Yes, the steamer itself gets hot, but not so hot that I can't use it or it will cause injury (be careful with the steam though). It's mild compared to how hot an iron gets.
