Sunbeam 3046 Task-Manager Iron with Automatic Shut-Off, Black Review

Sunbeam 3046 Task-Manager Iron with Automatic Shut-Off, BlackThis is a great iron. No, really, it is! Produces lots of steam, nice stainless steel plate, all controls are simple and user friendly. I only gave it 4 stars because the spout where you pour the water in is really small, so it's kinda tricky to fill with water without spilling some. Also you do have to put some elbow grease into stubborn wrinkles in a heavy fabric like denim. But, this iron does not leak water, steams well, and of course, you just can't beat the Amazon price!

Product Description:
Lightweight and ergonomically designed, this state-of-the-art iron makes household ironing chores fast and easy. The unit's Spray Mist system dampens fabric to aid in removing wrinkles from heavy fabrics and for setting creases. In addition, its Shot of Steam function provides an extra burst of steam to deeply penetrate and smooth out stubborn wrinkles. Holding the iron in a vertical position allows for using it as a steamer on hanging garments or drapes. For safety and convenience, the iron offers three-way Motion Smart automatic shut-off. With the iron plugged in, the power indicator will light steadily. If the iron gets left in a horizontal position or accidentally tipped over, it will automatically stop heating after 30 seconds. If the iron gets left in a vertical position (on its heel rest), the iron will automatically turn off after 15 minutes. In both scenarios, the power indicator will blink to show that the iron has stopped heating and will continue to blink until the iron gets unplugged or reset. To reset the iron, move it back and forth and allow it to reheat for two minutes. The indicator will stop blinking and the iron will start heating again. Other details include a stainless soleplate for smooth gliding, a fabric select dial, a covered water fill hole, a see-through water reservoir, and drip-free operation even at low temperatures. A complimentary water cup for ease of use in filling the water hole comes included. The iron measures approximately 5-2/7 by 12 by 6-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Black & Decker S520 Quickpress Spray Iron Review

Black & Decker S520 Quickpress Spray IronWe bought this iron because it seemed like a decent choice for the price. However, after having it three years (and using it very rarely), it began to break down and we now have to throw it away. The non-stick coating on the iron plate is unpeeling, which turns into little black balls on your clothes as you iron (not nice on a dress shirt). Also, when I press the steam button, rusty water comes out of the steam holes, staining the clothes. They must have used parts on the inside that rust over time. Spend a little more money and get a better iron - it saddens me to have to fill the landfill with poorly-produced junk like this.

Rowenta Commercial Garment Steamer Review

Rowenta Commercial Garment SteamerAfter a bit of a slow start I figured out that if I nuge the tank an air buble cames up and the water goes into the heating unit and out comes the steam. Once I got going the steam was flowing easily and the wrinkles came out of my suit beautifully! I was impressed with the over all ease of use and how nice my suits looked when I was finished. Only one warning, the hose gets VERY HOT! It does have a cool touch handle but the hose is very hot! Do not use around small children.

Bissell ProHeat 2X Select Pet Upright Deep Cleaner, 94003 Review

Bissell ProHeat 2X Select Pet Upright Deep Cleaner, 94003Hi.

We bought this model at a local retail store last weekend. I had used a different model of the same brand previously (borrowed from in-laws). I have used it once, on my entire living room--a cream colored cheap wall-to-wall carpet laid down about 3 years ago by the previous owners. Probably artificial fibers. Just saying.

The carpet was getting spotty. We have a cat who has hairballs regularly and two four-year-olds. The cream colored carpet was showing spots around the kids computer, both couches, and the high-traffic areas at each doorway. We had some washable-marker marks here and there, and one sticky place. We live in the south so we had red clay marks, too.

I assembled the machine--had to get a long, thin screwdriver from the garage because the kind with the changeable tips is too fat for the holes in the upper handle. Assembly was easy, but I was left with an extra wand that had no home. Ours came with a small, medium, and large unpowered wand plus a powered wand and a crevice tool. At this point I was thinking that all the unpowered wands were kind of redundant.

I filled the machine with hot water and the 'fiber cleansing' solution my husband picked up because he didn't realize there were two bottles of solution inside the box. Not a big deal, we'll use it all, I'm sure. The soap tank was a bit leaky for just a second, so I let it drip til it stopped, then rinsed off the outside.

I grabbed the blue squirt bottle of 'tough stain precleaner' that came in the box and squirted each little gray, brown, or sticky spot. Didn't do anything else, just squirted. Gave the gray area near the doors a sort of 'misting' to get the job started.

I turned the dial on the Bissell to 'normal cleaning' and started near one door. Wet stroke forward, wet stroke backward, dry stroke forward, dry stroke backward. Had a little trouble with the suction at first, but I later determined this was probably because the machine had tipped while it was on. It makes a pop noise when it loses suction, and you pretty much have to shut the machine off and turn it back on to 'reset'. A few places in the carpet needed an extra going over with the wet/dry strokes to get the spots up.

After just a couple of strokes, the machine started spitting out little 'hairballs' that were gray--presumably cat hair and carpet fiber wads. I had read about these in the manual and so was not alarmed. I decided to let them go and after the carpet dried I'd get them with the dry vac.

About half-way through the room (13x18, roughly) it was time to dump the dirty water and refill. The water was like diluted hot chocolate in color, and had hairballs in it. Removing and replacing the tank is quite easy. Originally I was thinking I had to lay down the handle to get at the connections, but this is not true--the machine can be standing up and you can still get the water tank out. Not sure about the soap tank, though.

Note that while cleaning, you're dripping on the back stroke. So you start at one end of the room and work *backwards* to the other end, not forwards. Probably a no-brainer, but there you go. I tried using one of the unpowered wands for a spot under the kids desk, and it did OK but didn't really wow me. It was nice to have the trigger right there on the wand to be able to squirt soap at the spot, and the wand did fine at pulling the water back out. Didn't try the powered wand for it--I just went over it again with the big machine and the spot was completely gone. I'll try the powered wand another time.

Back in action, I finished up the room with no other highlights. I chose not to use the 'rinse' cycle on the machine at all, I guess I'm testing the anti-resoiling agent in the soap. :) I didn't really want to spend the time going over every inch of carpet twice.

When finished, I put down a couple of clean towels to walk on since we can't avoid using the room. The carpet itself was dried within a couple of hours--even the bit at the start where I was having trouble with suction.

Once dry, I have to say the carpet looks great. There might be one or two places where the spots wouldn't come out--but they have been cleaned at least 3 times now with three different machines and have persisted through all of them. Anyway, I do notice that the carpet nap is starting to look a little worn--it's cheap carpet. I haven't been back over it yet with the dry vac to get the hairballs up, that might change the appearance.

Husband said the smell of the soap was pretty much gone once the carpet dried, so it didn't leave a heavy stink of 'just washed the carpets' behind. The soap smell was itself reasonably pleasant and not overpowering even when wet.

So on to disassembly and cleaning. Emptying the dirty water was again no big deal. I rinsed out the tank afterward to get the hairballs out and keep it from getting stinky (why leave microban a big job, after all). I left the remaining soap in the soap tank for the next time. Since the shields over the nozzles and brushes are clear, you can see how scummy they get after just one use, so I grabbed my screwdriver again and popped off the clear shields (one screw for the front 'suck' piece, and two screws each for the side 'edge cleaner' areas) to rinse them out. The brushes themselves were exposed at that point and I could see the surfaces behind them were scummy but I didn't feel like removing the brushes so I just wiped with a rag to get the scum out of the places I could reach. At this point the vac is lying on its back in the kitchen, in the way. But one more wipe of the sole plate (where the dirty drips come from) and reapplying screws and shields and it all went back together easily. It took about another five mins or so to clean the machine after use. Then I grabbed a clean rag and the reassembled machine and moved it to its storage home. Since it's sitting on the carpet, I put the clean rag down first, then the machine on the rag to catch any drips I might have missed.

I am very pleased with how the machine performed. It made a dirty carpet look clean again, which is exactly what I wanted. It was relatively easy to use and clean (might tape a screwdriver to the machine just to have one handy) and it did a great job.

If I were going to improve the machine, I'd make those clear shields use a fastener other than a screw so they could pop off by hand. I'd maybe add one more fastener for that spare wand. I might include a plastic tray to sit the thing on when it's not in use. I might try to work on that suction pop noise thing to make it clearer that you need to stop and fix something before you squirt more soap down. I might also leave off all the marvelous stickers identifying special features. Not needed, and they get in the way of seeing what the machine is doing. And if I were really working hard to improve, I'd have a 'self propelled' motor to assist the user to move the machine at the proper speed (slow) and with the proper contact between machine and floor (to improve suction).

I hope the machine will last for the amount of time we intend to keep this carpet. Other reviews make me wonder if my satisfaction will last, since it seems other people have a lot of trouble with their machines, regardless of brand and model. I hope to update this review again later, after a few more uses.

-----edited Nov 30 2009
After using the machine several more times, I am still pleased. It's kept the carpet looking pretty good, and sometimes I'm able to get up spots using only the warm water without soap. That's nice. I haven't used up all the carpet soap that came with the machine (and that we bought by mistake). The cat was quite ill over the summer and kept throwing up all over the carpet, everywhere..and you really can't tell at all. Likewise the kids have repeatedly gone after the carpet with washable markers and crayons, and those marks are gone as well. Red clay marks gone. There are some shadowy gray areas at the main entrance/exit to the room that the shampooer doesn't seem to be able to help, I guess the carpet is just showing its age.

I have taped a gallon zip bag to the front of the machine, in which I have the manual and the screwdriver I mentioned earlier. Very handy. I've used the powered wand a few times now, and I like that much better than the unpowered ones. Agitation really helps get the gunk out.

I like using this machine better than my Spotlifter now, it does a better job. I do tend to 'save up' spots so I can run the machine for long enough to make it feel 'worthwhile', but it even gets up the old spots.

Anyway, I'm pleased with the machine, it does what I wanted it to do. After months, it doesn't stink (I still rinse it out after each use), and it hasn't made anything scummy while it sits waiting for the next use.

Oliso Touch and Glide Iron Review

Oliso Touch and Glide IronWow! Could not believe negative review on this iron....I am a quilter and sewer and use this iron daily.I HIGHLY recommend this iron.I absolutely LOVE not having to place it on its end each time I have to adjust my fabric.Really takes stress off of my wrists and for my purposes, the feet on this iron make it a much more SAFE and STEADIER iron. Not sure how this iron would fall off an ironing board (as the other reviewer states).... any other iron is more likely to fall over / off and has higher potential for burning incidents due to having to be placed on its end.The on / off function has NEVER failed and while quilting, I leave it on for hours at a time. The water reservoir is easy to refill and the VISIBILITY is a plus!(I recommend against using tap water due to mineral build up - use bottled water only). I am on my second one after 4 years ONLY due to my having purchased the non-stick version and it wearing off due to high usage.Have to add that my husband - who insists on ironing his own shirts - LOVES this iron also.

Pro Garment Steamer - Aqua/ White Review

Pro Garment Steamer - Aqua/ WhiteThis is a great little steamer.I have bought others similar to this type and they are usually 200 watts and inadequately slow. This one is 400 watts and heats up and starts steaming in 2 minutes.Other types like this spill water or spit water if tipped a little too much. But this one is designed with little dividers inside so it doesn't spill water.Great design.Just boils water without a pump or small tubes to get plugged. The 400 watts puts out a very hot good stream of steam which takes the wrinkles right out.Much hotter than the Rowenta 800 watt pump steamer I bought at Kohl's for $50 and clogged within 6 months.

This steamer will put out about 10 minutes of steam per fill of water. The only drawback with this type of steamer is the top part gets hot and you need a towel or something to take off the top to refill it.Not a big issue. The steamer had dual voltage that works automatically. No switch to remember. You will love this affordable steamer.Simple, consistent and trouble free.

Sunbeam 3966 Classic Iron Review

Sunbeam 3966 Classic IronThis is a very nice iron which I purchased within the past few months from an Amazon.com seller. The soleplate is non-stick like many irons. The only thing I don't like is the somewhat rough texture of the soleplate which was very smooth on my previous iron.I like the stainless steel body of this Sunbeam Classic iron and its performance is very good.A small plastic 'pitcher' comes with the iron to make it easy to put water into the iron for steam.I use only filtered water (reverse osmosis) in the iron since hard water deposits can damage an iron.Distilled water is also perfect for use in a steam iron. This iron was much more reasonable in cost than my previous mostly plastic iron (different brand name) which I dropped several times and finally had to throw away.A heavier iron such as this Sunbeam does not tend to fall off the ironing board if handled correctly.

Conair GS10RHR Deluxe Fabric Steamer Review

Conair GS10RHR Deluxe Fabric Steameri have a lot of experience with steamers over the years - mine as well as others used in stores. stupid me, then, for not realizing that you get what you pay for. my jiffy steamer finally died after nine years, but it served me well. it is a machine of substance, solid parts, very stable. trust me - you don't want to scrimp when it comes to working with a device designed to produce streams of hot steam! i foolishly tried to save some money by getting the conair gs10rh, and i'm returning it immediately. the well into which the telescoping pole sits is just about 1 inch deep - not deep enough to keep the pole stable. the brackets to hold the telescoped parts extended aren't firm - any heavy jacket will make them slide. the housing itself is amazingly lightweight; i thought that was a good thing, but now i know why the jiffy steamer's housing seems like it weighs a ton - you really do want the unit to be solidly anchored. handling a steamer is a serious matter. don't take on unnecessary risk by getting an inexpensive, poorly designed, lightweight steamer like the conair. spend the extra money for the product that has been the standard bearer for years: jiffy. you won't regret it. and even though mine died after nine years, i have no regrets, and now i'll do the right thing and get another.

Bissell ProHeat Upright Deep Cleaner, 25A3 Review

Bissell ProHeat Upright Deep Cleaner, 25A3I upgraded from an older Bissell Little Green Machine to this unit based primarily on my experience with Bissell products. The PROheat has a number of nice features that ultimately sold me on it and after using it for a few months now I'm fairly pleased with it.I particularly like that you can choose to either have the heat on or off.I've heard some people say that using the heat can break down your carpets more quickly and cause the stain to get worse as it picks up new dirt that is tracked in.I don't know if that's not the case, but since my old Bissell unit lacked heat but did a fine job, I pretty much use this minus the heat.Even with the heat off I'm stunned at how good a job this unit does. It's even cleaned stains that I gave up as a lost cause. Most astonishingly, I usually vacuum first before using the steamer and then vacuum again once it's dry.I've discovered I actually vacuum up MORE dirt after steam cleaning than I did before.Clearly this machine is knocking loose built up dirt which means cleaner and nicer appearing carpets than ever before.I also liked the wand attachment from my old Little Green machine, especially for upholstered pieces and hard to reach spots and this thankfully has that.

But there are some drawbacks and limitations. At least initially you will pick up a LOT of carpet fibers when you use the machine, which means FREQUENT cleaning of the rotating brushes and especially the multiple filters on the unit.In some instances I wound up using tweezers to get out fibers from the particularly small filter on the underside of the water tank. The one on top is easier to clean out, but particles trap almost everywhere on this machine. The water tank holds a pitifully small amount of water and/or cleaning solution which means frequent refills, and it slows down the whole cleaning process. The self contained tank is easy to empty, but if you think that will eliminate odors from dirty water guess again, it doesn't.The tank does seem to leak or the seals don't hold tight and so dirty water does collect in the well that the tank sits in, which ads to the nasty smells as well as adding yet another think you have to clean up.Another particularly annoying habit is the dirty water seeping out the front of the machine by the cleaning rollers when you turn off and store the machine. This is really disgusting and trust me, don't store it on carpet or even leave it sitting there for very long as it WILL leak! When in use loose fibers tend to gather on the underside of the machine around the brush rollers so you manually have to gather it up by hand, which slows down the cleaning process.Once you've cleaned your carpet a few times that problem (hopefully) should minimize, although it has yet to happen for me.As a result there's a considerable amount of maintenance you have to do to ensure your machine is operating under optimum conditions.Even so, it's hard to argue with the results.I would probably buy this same unit again, but would also read up on other models just in case they operate more easily.Perhaps I was used to the utter simplicity of the Little Green Machine and sometimes I wish I was still using it, sad to say.

SteamFast Compact Fabric Steamer - SF-435W Review

SteamFast Compact Fabric Steamer - SF-435WHello - I am in no way related to the SteamFast company.I have owned two other travel/compact steamers:

Jiffy, which makes a very good steamer as well, however, it is more than twice the money and, although I had their compact steamer for at least six years, I didn't use it very much (as I had their industrial steamer) and recently the heater unit on it broke. So I'm not sure that their quality is so good unless I got a lemon.Additionally, the Jiffy model is slightly larger than the SteamFast model.

The other model I used was a Franzus and the only thing better about this one was it's size.As a steamer it doesn't perform well at all.

The SteamFast Compact Fabric Steamer SF-435W does a very good job (just as good as Jiffy, if not better) at steaming out wrinkles - it has more steaming holes than Jiffy - (though if you want a super crisp look nothing replaces an iron), it's price is great for the quality, and it's a bit smaller than the Jiffy.I'd like to see them make this unit at least a couple of inches smaller but it's still a great unit.In my opinion, this unit can be used at home (especially since home units are much more expensive and take up a lot of room) or for traveling.A very good product.I highly recommend it.(I also recommend using distilled or purified water in clothes steamers whenever possible as it will extend the life of the unit.)

Yamata GSI8800 heavy duty commercial iron Review

Yamata GSI8800 heavy duty commercial ironI'm picky about how an iron/steam generator/gravity iron works & this one doesn't work very good. This gravity iron produces half the steam that my Pacific did.I've used it for a few days, so I'm hoping there's an air bubble in the line rather than permanent skimpy steam. The water line should be longer; it won't reach to the end of my board. The warning light showing that the iron is on is on the back of the iron rather than the side. The heat level indicator is not readily visible as it is a indentation on the black plastic; a dot of red on the plastic would be better. The "control" for shutting off water from the bottle is a piece of plastic junk that doesn't stop the water instead of a screw.

All in all, it's better than a traditional iron, but if it doesn't start producing more steam, I'll replace it.Cheaper wasn't better this time.

2-23-09:I'm editing the review to add a new note:the plastic tubing between the water bottle and the iron is not heat resistant like my other gravity iron. The tubing has touched the iron while I was using it & has started to melt.

I am getting more steam--I probably had a few air bubbles in the tube, but the steam isn't as heavy as my Pacific.

Sunbeam 3965 Classic Iron, White Review

Sunbeam 3965 Classic Iron, WhiteI bought this to replace the current iron that just wasn't cutting it - also a Sunbeam.Paid $20 at Target. My parents have a Sunbeam that works well - a slightly different model. This iron advertises as no spit - but it did just that the first time I used it.Didn't get the wrinkles out of an oxford shirt, so, back to Target.I got the highly rated Black & Decker D2020 instead for about $40.It works great. It has a digital readout, which I don't care about, the auto shut-off, of course, and it's weighty, which might help.I would suggest checking it out.

Bissell Quicksteamer Lightweight Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner, 1770 Review

Bissell Quicksteamer Lightweight Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner, 1770This is a light cleaner which picks up general dirt. The only downside is this models brush does not spin, it simply sits on the ground and drags as you pull the unit. You need to scrub any real stains manually to get them clean. The Bissell Powerbrush 2080 spins and for $20 more does a much better job and it is still light!Happy Cleaning.

Sunbeam 4267-000-000 Professional Digital Stainless Steel Soleplate Iron, Chrome Skirt Review

Sunbeam 4267-000-000 Professional Digital Stainless Steel Soleplate Iron, Chrome SkirtI purchased this item about three months ago after my 30 year old Black and Decker finally passed on.My primary use is for sewing applications and I purchased it because it was on sale and seemed like it had quite a few features for the price point.I had researched Rowentas, Black and Deckers and everything in between and I couldn't find an iron that seemed like it was an all around great deal.I did end up settling for this one because I couldn't justify the price of a Rowenta and the Black and Decker that is so popular wasn't available in any store near my house. So far, I've been very happy with this purchase. It puts out quite a bit of steam and has a nice weight behind it.It heats up quickly and lights up green to indicate that its ready for use.I also like that one can use regular tap water in this, rather than filtered water. The cord is plenty long for my uses and never seems to get tangled. There's also plenty of room at the base of the iron to wrap the cord around itself and it has a little clip to keep the cord in place. It also has a one year warranty. The only drawback I've found to this iron is that the temperature controls are on the handle and occasionally, I accidentally change the temperature setting while ironing. Its a nuisance and that's why I dinged one star on the review.Overall, this is a great iron and I hope it gives me many years of good use.

SteamFast SF-420 Contemporary Fabric Steamer Review

SteamFast SF-420 Contemporary Fabric SteamerI ordered Sunday afternoon, it arrived Tuesday, which was fantastic, but the spray nozzle was missing so not happy. It was July 3 so I didnt get rep from manufacturer til 2 days later. The company was great, sent part right away, no problems from them. The steamer however was a huge dissappointment. The steam "meandered" out, was not forceful nor plentiful in the least, after 5 minutes in one small area of a blouse the wrinkles remained.Tried leaving steamer on for over 15 minutes to "heat up" and work up more steam, no go.It is an ok product quality wise and the company was responsive, it just didnt perform well at all.Returned product.

Bissell Quicksteamer Multi-Surface Deep Cleaner, 2090 Review

Bissell Quicksteamer Multi-Surface Deep Cleaner, 2090I have a husband, a 5-year-old, and three cats......and WHITE carpet. This carpet cleaner got out all the marks on my carpet. The tank is not big, but it works because there is not an on board heater, so you will have to refill the tank with new HOT water for bigger rooms.I used the Bissell Fiber cleansing formula with the quicksteamer and had great results.I then use the quicksteamer on my wood floor and had great results.I would recommend this to anyone. Conair GS15RN Handheld Fabric Steamer Review

Conair GS15RN Handheld Fabric SteamerI am VERY disappointed with this product. It is not powerful enought to remove the wrinkles from clothing. The only way I found to get it to do a fairly decent job is to stretch the piece of clothing downward as it hangs, and rub the fabric with the brush on the steamer while steaming, going over and over the same spot. It's like trying to iron vertically, only with no support behind the article of clothing. It doesn't remove wrinkles nearly as well as an iron, especially if there are any unwanted creases, and it takes considerably longer than ironing, since you have to steam the same spot over and over again.I bought the steamer because it uses tap water, and distilled water is a hastle to find when travelling, but tap water eventually causes irons to leave mineral deposits on clothing. Instead of this product, I recommend a standard iron or travel iron. It's easier to travel with a travel iron and just use a spray bottle filled with tap water to mist the clothes if you don't have distilled water to fill the iron with. The Conair GS15 Hand Held Fabric Steamer is a waste of money that doesn't do its job.

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900 Review

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900We should really be hired to test vacuum and carpet cleaners, but even so the price of this dream clean machine gave me some pause (okay, a lot). With 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats and fairly light carpets, we put our cleaners to the test. I have gone through SEVERAL carpet cleaners (roughly 1 every 2 years) and have also had the carpets professionally cleaned. Honestly, this carpet cleaner cleaned as well if not better than the pros, and worlds better than our current Hoover F6207-900 SteamVac Lite Carpet Cleaner with Heated Cleaning.

Pros:
1) Handle can lay back fully with no strain on the hose - I mention this after replacing the hoses several times on previous Hoovers
2) You do NOT have to mix the detergent!!!! Wow - what a great feature, no waste!
3) 2 separate rollers actually scrub the carpet amazingly well
4) No fuss dial system - incredibly easy to go between standard clean, spot clean (does not pick up so you can scrub, scrub, scrub away the years of bad carpet cleaners), and rinse (the water rinse is GREAT!)
5) Easy to follow indicator lights let you know if you know when it is cleaning (detergent), rinsing (water only), or drying (neither light on)
6) Spot clean is easy to follow - actually squirts out the front so you can actually see the spot you are hitting (2 settings, spray or stream)
7) My previous Hoovers had this obnoxious detachable hose reel, and then when the clips that hold it on break, you find yourself dragging accessories around the house - this one is not detachable.
8) The hose remains attached, you don't have to plug it in, so no hose door to break and lose (yeah, I've done that too)
9) Scrubber assembly comes off easily for cleaning (but not the front roller, which might be a problem if you don't maintain it)
10) generous cord longer than previous Hoovers
11) 6 year warranty makes it cheaper than replacing 3 $200 Hoovers with 1 year warranties (just check where your service center is - ours is about 30 miles away and always very responsive)
12) Since it is clear plastic (opposed to grey or purple) it is easier to see when the water being picked up becomes fairly clear indicating you have extracted the maximum amount of dirt you can

Cons:
1) It's big - and heavy - and I have tons of stairs
2) Blue light shining on carpet - this gives me eye strain after a while
3) Waste container - there's no delicate way to dump it - it's opening is like a big bucket and it gets everywhere. I suppose it will get better with practice, and it is easier to clean this way, but I think it was a step backward
4) Very small holes to pour in the detergent and water - buy a funnel since the detergent is pricey
5) Detergent guzzler

Eh's (take 'em or leave 'em):
1) Heat - I don't think it really did much (It didn't feel substantial)
2) Waste container sensor - doesn't detect the detergent well, with the clear plastic, it's pretty obvious when they need emptying/filling
3) Blue light - why blue - simulated uv? It doesn't actually illuminate anything.
4) Carry handle - it's made of molded plastic and is in the back, so... yeah, pretty awkward hoisting it up and down the stairs. But, I really don't have a better option, so am not putting it as a con.

How did it do???
If I had known how well it would do, I would have taken pictures or video, because it is unbelievable. I cleaned my ancient 15 year old carpets (about 1600 sq. feet worth) and actually managed to get them back very near their original color. Shockingly old stains that my kidlets provided that were not removed by the pros or the old cleaners are gone. One caveat here is that I used around 64 ounces of detergent. I started with the professional grade, but used the cheap stuff in the kids' rooms (smells better anyway). Based on the amount used and lack of discernable difference, I cannot recommend the "professional" cleaner but instead Hoover 40321130 Premium Pet Formula Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce, which has what I would call a lemony scent. If you are scent sensitive, then try Hoover 40321128 Deep Cleansing Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce. I use the 4-for-3 to really make it a great buy. In any event, I took my time actually read the directions for once and made sure I did several dry passes. I took advantage of the spot clean followed by rinse only for high traffic areas, used the powered hand tool on the stairs, and the upholstery brush on our chairs. All works admirably providing results that made the initial investment worth it. The carpets look amazing and were dry within two hours (aided along by a hot day).

Rowenta DZ1900 Auto Steam Cord Reel Iron Review

Rowenta DZ1900 Auto Steam Cord Reel IronWithin a month of owning this which I bought in late 2006, the front water fill section became detached. The plastic designed to hold it in refused to hold the section in unless I turned it to no stream.I already threw away the original box so I just lived with it.Also, the retractable cord whips me if I don't pay attention. I also wish they made the dial easier to turn (a little larger would be better).

June 2008, the iron began to stain my shirts periodically. I cleaned the unit quarterly but I was not expecting an expensive iron go bad after less an two years in use.

August 2008 update: I threw it away.

Try a less expensive brand so when two years comes around you can afford to just replace it.

Rowenta DA-35 Latitude 35 Compact Iron with Dual Voltage for TravelI travel quite a bit with my fiance and we always had wrinkled clothes after my poor packing job in our suitcase.I decided to get this travel iron to help and I have not been disappointed!
This iron is tiny (weighs I think 1.7 pounds) and works extremely well!It heats up just as well as my at home iron! One of the other great features is the vertical steamer, which works extremely well too.It is very portable, especially since the handle folds to lie flat.It comes in a nice travel pouch as well.
The cost is extremely reasonable too, especially if it shows up in your gold box! With free shipping its a real bargin.I highly recommend this iron, you will not be disappointed!

B&D Steam Advantage Iron Review

B&D Steam Advantage IronThis iron has had a series of issues
1) it has a hot spot in the front that melts all synthetic fabrics. Even if you carefully set the temperature to the correct fabric, the hot area will melt and stick. You are constantly scraping the sole to remove residue.
2)Mine steamed well for about 2 weeks then it started to leak BADLY. Everything ended up with water spots.

Select any other iron. This one is a waste of money.

Heated flat stones or ceramic were used as irons, according to archaeological findings dating back to medieval periods. Time was managed differently in those days. Those who could afford fine linens had vassals working for them to do the flattening.

Fortunately, ironing is much easier with the Black & Decker F2200 Steam Advantage Iron with Auto Shut-off.

Fabric selection was much simpler five hundred years ago. Today, fabrics range from natural to synthetic to hybrid fibers. Samsonite Dual Voltage Travel Garment Steamer Review

Samsonite Dual Voltage Travel Garment SteamerHave you ever taken a garmet out of suitcase with wrinkles everywhere? Well, this thing sets up in 2 mins and releses a gentle steam that will repair the look of your jacket. Just that, no more, no less.
Dual voltage a real plus, you will need a plug adaptor, though.

I just landed in Brussels this am and got it out of the trolley and brought my jacket back on track in 5 mins, then off to meetings.

Only one negative aspect: it does not empty properly, so you will have to carry in a plastic bag, there is no way to empty it fully, so some little is likely to leak out. Small price to pay to travel free of wrinkles.

HAAN Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer and Steam Mop with Deluxe sanitizing Carpet Tray Review

HAAN Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer and Steam Mop with Deluxe sanitizing Carpet TrayI did not use the product on wood flooring, but on carpeting.I bought it to steam sanitize my carpeting, and was pleased with the outcome.I first cleaned my carpet, let it dry and used the steamer afterwards.I also used it on my sofa. The sanitizer must be kept level or a small amount of water will leak from the sides, but it dried rather quickly so I did not see it as a problem. For the price, it did what I expected it to do. Since I used it on carpet I do not know how it works on wood flooring.I have three dogs and several cats, and was pleased at how clean my sofa and carpet looked afterwards.I did not clean the sofa first, just ran the steamer over it, and it pilled cat hairs for easy removal that I thought I had manually removed, which was great, because it left my sofa looking clean and bright. If you want to kill germs and sanitize your carpet or floor, then this product may work for you as well.

Floor Steam Cleaner Review

Floor Steam CleanerI bought this product last Christmas, I've had it almost a year now. Overall it's a good product. The only complaint would be that the cord is too short, I have to unplug it 3 times to get my floors done. When you order, you may want to order extra pads. I was always needing mine, and they hadn't been washed yet. I am just now getting ready to order new pads, they lasted almost a year. The product is sturdy and well built.

Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends, 9500 Review

Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends, 9500A review or two of this machine would have helped me a lot, so I'll leave one hoping it might help someone out there who's trying to decide which carpet cleaner to buy.

We moved into our house four months ago. The previous owner had the carpets cleaned for us, but they already looked awful. She was very tidy and clean--no children at home--and we just really aren't. The carpets on the main floor are a very light Berber, so you can probably imagine how they were starting to look with an eight-year-old constantly in and out. And we aren't shoe removers.

My only previous experience with a deep cleaner was a 5-year-old Bissell that served my mom faithfully until it finally stopped working when I tried to use it a few days ago. I am convinced the water shooter thingy only quit because it was left filthy by the last person who used it and is probably clogged up with some nasty glob of disgustion.

Anyway, I needed my carpets cleaned and I needed it done soon because my in-laws are due for a visit in just over a week. I didn't have time to wait for Amazon to ship me a carpet cleaner, and I didn't want to pay someone half what this cleaner would cost to do it for me.

After reading many reviews, I was wavering between the Bissell 9400, the 9500, and the Hoover SteamVac Agility. I probably would have gone with the Agility just for the sake of price and the separate dirty/clean water tanks, but none of the local stores had it, and like I said I needed it now. Finally I wandered into a Linens `n Things and saw the Bissell 9500. It was priced higher than Amazon, but with a 20% off coupon it actually came out a little lower, even after paying sales tax. So I took it home.

I had absolutely no problems with assembly. It took all of maybe 5-10 minutes and a Philips screwdriver.

My first impression was Wow! Bissell has sure made a lot of improvements since my mom's machine rolled off the line.

The water tank is much easier to clean and use. The piece of plastic on the top where the suction takes place on the old Bissell was difficult to clean because it was attached to the main assembly, but the new one has the suction part on top of the water tank, so you can easily run water through it to get the gunk out. I'm a believer that you have to clean these things after using them if you want them to last. I also like that the water tank is made with Microban so I don't have to worry about bacteria building up in a damp machine.

I also like that this has a separate tank for the cleaning solution. I believe that with the Hoover Agility you have to mix the solution with the water, which would make it difficult to switch between cleaning and rinsing with water only. Rinsing helps get the extra soap out so you don't feel like you're walking on chemicals. I appreciated being able to choose between `heavy traffic', `normal clean', `light clean', and `water rinse' with the turn of a dial.

The `Clean Shot' feature, which I didn't think would be a big deal, actually turned out to be quite useful. Often I would go over a spot, expecting it to disappear, only to find it was still there. So, I would just hit it with a wallop of pure cleaning solution, clean another section for a few seconds, then go back over the spot. It really seemed to help get the peskier ones out.

On the old Bissell, the nozzles and hose were constantly falling out when you weren't using them because there was no way to secure them properly. I can't imagine that happening with the 9500; everything is secured with very tough plastic and nothing fell off while I was cleaning.

The attachments worked very well, by the way. One of the reasons I wanted this machine was that I wanted to be able to clean stairs myself. The TurboBrush was great. There's a switch that you can adjust between `brush'--an actual revolving brush--and `suction.' All the tools I used seemed to suction very well, another improvement over the old Bissell. The wide stair tool is nice for larger fields and the narrow tool is good for places like stair edges, where a wider tool might lose suction. There are a few tools I didn't use (crevice tool, squeegee, medium brush tool) because I didn't need them, but I might need them for instance when I clean the carpets in my truck, or when I clean my hard floors.

The only feature I am undecided on is the `Dry Aire' in which hot air blows out the bottom, supposedly to speed drying time. I didn't notice quicker drying and it makes a warm job warmer. But who knows, maybe it really does help.

My carpet looks wonderful. I'm convinced that if I spent more time on it, especially pre-treating, it would look even more wonderful, but who has unlimited time these days, especially with an 8-month-old? It definitely looks as good as when we moved in, maybe a little better. Like I said, the previous owner was very clean, so there wasn't a ton of dirt built up other than what we've brought in during these last four months. Nevertheless, there were plenty of times during my cleaning of high-traffic areas that I would see a distinct line between clean and dirty after the very first pass.

Overall the Bissell 9500 was easy to use, a pleasure really. It's not too heavy for me and I'm quite small. All the plastic on it seems very thick and durable, and it's even kind of pretty--an amazing machine.

I'll update this review if I have any problems with it in the future.
