Hoover F5810 SteamVac Review

Hoover F5810 SteamVacI was impressed with the way it doesn't oversaturate the carpet (unless you just keep going over the area and pressing the squirt trigger a lot.) The suction is very good and the machine is easy to operate. The water is only as hot as you get out of your faucet however, but this was not a concern for me.

I almost bought a Bissell, similar price, but discovered the Bissell had an odd retriever container--it actually sits inside the clean water container, so this doesn't give much room for the dirty water. I didn't actually try out the Bissell, so I can't really criticize it.

I used the Hoover for a very dirty utility room carpet and the only thing I will do different next time is use a Hoover stain remover for some of the ground in dirt stains.

All in all, I found this machine to be MUCH better than ones I had rented from a local hardware store in past years (for a different house). The rental machines are extremely heavy, hard to get in and out of my car and leave the carpets soaking wet. This Hoover machine isjust what I hoped for.

One thing to be aware of, after you take the machine out of the package, check to see if the cap on the clean water container is already loosened.I was following directions to a "tee" and trying like everything to turn the knob to the left to unscrew it and then discovered it was already loose and ready to be lifted out.

I ordered this machine from Amazonalso another item previously, and was very happy with Amazon's fast delivery time on both items.

Bissell Quicksteamer Multi-Surface Deep Cleaner, 2090 Review

Bissell Quicksteamer Multi-Surface Deep Cleaner, 2090I have a husband, a 5-year-old, and three cats......and WHITE carpet. This carpet cleaner got out all the marks on my carpet. The tank is not big, but it works because there is not an on board heater, so you will have to refill the tank with new HOT water for bigger rooms.I used the Bissell Fiber cleansing formula with the quicksteamer and had great results.I then use the quicksteamer on my wood floor and had great results.I would recommend this to anyone. Great Value and Great product.

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900 Review

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900We should really be hired to test vacuum and carpet cleaners, but even so the price of this dream clean machine gave me some pause (okay, a lot). With 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats and fairly light carpets, we put our cleaners to the test. I have gone through SEVERAL carpet cleaners (roughly 1 every 2 years) and have also had the carpets professionally cleaned. Honestly, this carpet cleaner cleaned as well if not better than the pros, and worlds better than our current Hoover F6207-900 SteamVac Lite Carpet Cleaner with Heated Cleaning.

Pros:
1) Handle can lay back fully with no strain on the hose - I mention this after replacing the hoses several times on previous Hoovers
2) You do NOT have to mix the detergent!!!! Wow - what a great feature, no waste!
3) 2 separate rollers actually scrub the carpet amazingly well
4) No fuss dial system - incredibly easy to go between standard clean, spot clean (does not pick up so you can scrub, scrub, scrub away the years of bad carpet cleaners), and rinse (the water rinse is GREAT!)
5) Easy to follow indicator lights let you know if you know when it is cleaning (detergent), rinsing (water only), or drying (neither light on)
6) Spot clean is easy to follow - actually squirts out the front so you can actually see the spot you are hitting (2 settings, spray or stream)
7) My previous Hoovers had this obnoxious detachable hose reel, and then when the clips that hold it on break, you find yourself dragging accessories around the house - this one is not detachable.
8) The hose remains attached, you don't have to plug it in, so no hose door to break and lose (yeah, I've done that too)
9) Scrubber assembly comes off easily for cleaning (but not the front roller, which might be a problem if you don't maintain it)
10) generous cord longer than previous Hoovers
11) 6 year warranty makes it cheaper than replacing 3 $200 Hoovers with 1 year warranties (just check where your service center is - ours is about 30 miles away and always very responsive)
12) Since it is clear plastic (opposed to grey or purple) it is easier to see when the water being picked up becomes fairly clear indicating you have extracted the maximum amount of dirt you can

Cons:
1) It's big - and heavy - and I have tons of stairs
2) Blue light shining on carpet - this gives me eye strain after a while
3) Waste container - there's no delicate way to dump it - it's opening is like a big bucket and it gets everywhere. I suppose it will get better with practice, and it is easier to clean this way, but I think it was a step backward
4) Very small holes to pour in the detergent and water - buy a funnel since the detergent is pricey
5) Detergent guzzler

Eh's (take 'em or leave 'em):
1) Heat - I don't think it really did much (It didn't feel substantial)
2) Waste container sensor - doesn't detect the detergent well, with the clear plastic, it's pretty obvious when they need emptying/filling
3) Blue light - why blue - simulated uv? It doesn't actually illuminate anything.
4) Carry handle - it's made of molded plastic and is in the back, so... yeah, pretty awkward hoisting it up and down the stairs. But, I really don't have a better option, so am not putting it as a con.

How did it do???
If I had known how well it would do, I would have taken pictures or video, because it is unbelievable. I cleaned my ancient 15 year old carpets (about 1600 sq. feet worth) and actually managed to get them back very near their original color. Shockingly old stains that my kidlets provided that were not removed by the pros or the old cleaners are gone. One caveat here is that I used around 64 ounces of detergent. I started with the professional grade, but used the cheap stuff in the kids' rooms (smells better anyway). Based on the amount used and lack of discernable difference, I cannot recommend the "professional" cleaner but instead Hoover 40321130 Premium Pet Formula Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce, which has what I would call a lemony scent. If you are scent sensitive, then try Hoover 40321128 Deep Cleansing Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce. I use the 4-for-3 to really make it a great buy. In any event, I took my time actually read the directions for once and made sure I did several dry passes. I took advantage of the spot clean followed by rinse only for high traffic areas, used the powered hand tool on the stairs, and the upholstery brush on our chairs. All works admirably providing results that made the initial investment worth it. The carpets look amazing and were dry within two hours (aided along by a hot day).

Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends, 9500 Review

Bissell ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends, 9500A review or two of this machine would have helped me a lot, so I'll leave one hoping it might help someone out there who's trying to decide which carpet cleaner to buy.

We moved into our house four months ago. The previous owner had the carpets cleaned for us, but they already looked awful. She was very tidy and clean--no children at home--and we just really aren't. The carpets on the main floor are a very light Berber, so you can probably imagine how they were starting to look with an eight-year-old constantly in and out. And we aren't shoe removers.

My only previous experience with a deep cleaner was a 5-year-old Bissell that served my mom faithfully until it finally stopped working when I tried to use it a few days ago. I am convinced the water shooter thingy only quit because it was left filthy by the last person who used it and is probably clogged up with some nasty glob of disgustion.

Anyway, I needed my carpets cleaned and I needed it done soon because my in-laws are due for a visit in just over a week. I didn't have time to wait for Amazon to ship me a carpet cleaner, and I didn't want to pay someone half what this cleaner would cost to do it for me.

After reading many reviews, I was wavering between the Bissell 9400, the 9500, and the Hoover SteamVac Agility. I probably would have gone with the Agility just for the sake of price and the separate dirty/clean water tanks, but none of the local stores had it, and like I said I needed it now. Finally I wandered into a Linens `n Things and saw the Bissell 9500. It was priced higher than Amazon, but with a 20% off coupon it actually came out a little lower, even after paying sales tax. So I took it home.

I had absolutely no problems with assembly. It took all of maybe 5-10 minutes and a Philips screwdriver.

My first impression was Wow! Bissell has sure made a lot of improvements since my mom's machine rolled off the line.

The water tank is much easier to clean and use. The piece of plastic on the top where the suction takes place on the old Bissell was difficult to clean because it was attached to the main assembly, but the new one has the suction part on top of the water tank, so you can easily run water through it to get the gunk out. I'm a believer that you have to clean these things after using them if you want them to last. I also like that the water tank is made with Microban so I don't have to worry about bacteria building up in a damp machine.

I also like that this has a separate tank for the cleaning solution. I believe that with the Hoover Agility you have to mix the solution with the water, which would make it difficult to switch between cleaning and rinsing with water only. Rinsing helps get the extra soap out so you don't feel like you're walking on chemicals. I appreciated being able to choose between `heavy traffic', `normal clean', `light clean', and `water rinse' with the turn of a dial.

The `Clean Shot' feature, which I didn't think would be a big deal, actually turned out to be quite useful. Often I would go over a spot, expecting it to disappear, only to find it was still there. So, I would just hit it with a wallop of pure cleaning solution, clean another section for a few seconds, then go back over the spot. It really seemed to help get the peskier ones out.

On the old Bissell, the nozzles and hose were constantly falling out when you weren't using them because there was no way to secure them properly. I can't imagine that happening with the 9500; everything is secured with very tough plastic and nothing fell off while I was cleaning.

The attachments worked very well, by the way. One of the reasons I wanted this machine was that I wanted to be able to clean stairs myself. The TurboBrush was great. There's a switch that you can adjust between `brush'--an actual revolving brush--and `suction.' All the tools I used seemed to suction very well, another improvement over the old Bissell. The wide stair tool is nice for larger fields and the narrow tool is good for places like stair edges, where a wider tool might lose suction. There are a few tools I didn't use (crevice tool, squeegee, medium brush tool) because I didn't need them, but I might need them for instance when I clean the carpets in my truck, or when I clean my hard floors.

The only feature I am undecided on is the `Dry Aire' in which hot air blows out the bottom, supposedly to speed drying time. I didn't notice quicker drying and it makes a warm job warmer. But who knows, maybe it really does help.

My carpet looks wonderful. I'm convinced that if I spent more time on it, especially pre-treating, it would look even more wonderful, but who has unlimited time these days, especially with an 8-month-old? It definitely looks as good as when we moved in, maybe a little better. Like I said, the previous owner was very clean, so there wasn't a ton of dirt built up other than what we've brought in during these last four months. Nevertheless, there were plenty of times during my cleaning of high-traffic areas that I would see a distinct line between clean and dirty after the very first pass.

Overall the Bissell 9500 was easy to use, a pleasure really. It's not too heavy for me and I'm quite small. All the plastic on it seems very thick and durable, and it's even kind of pretty--an amazing machine.

I'll update this review if I have any problems with it in the future.

Hoover SteamVac Dual V Widepath Carpet Cleaner, Plum, F7411-900 Review

Hoover SteamVac Dual V Widepath Carpet Cleaner, Plum, F7411-900I had the older version of this machine.I bought it about 6 years ago and after attempting to clean the rugs last month I realized it was no longer picking up the water.Opened it up and saw that the internal suction hose had split in half. That was it .. time to find another cleaner.I have had good luck with Hoovers but did a TON of research before settling on this machine.I have a dog and a toddler and both do a number on my rugs.Juice, food, crayons, spit up, urine and everything else under the sun has ended up on my carpet in the past 2 years.I did not take care of my previous Hoover so it wasn't the best in its later life.I just brought the new one home and oh my god, the water was black.I did not think anything could bring my carpets back but this did. They are so soft and clean.I love this machine because it has a rinse button if you want to make sure you have gotten all the soap out.I use really warm water and the machine directs hot air onto the carpet as you make your passes. The carpet dried super fast and just looks fantastic.I had to fill and empty the containers 4 times for my combination living / dining room but hey, I'm not complaining now that I see the results.I also like this machine because you do not mix the detergent in with the water. This is great because if you have detergent left over you just pour it back into the bottle. Based on my previous experience, here is what I learned and can pass on to future Hoover SteamVac owners:

1.Clean your machine after each use. That means taking apart the brushes and washing out the front nozzle. This is an investment and if you want it to continue working like it did the first day, you need to take care of it.
2.Do not leave left over or dirty water in the tank when you put it away. This will wear away at the joints and increases the chances the leaks.
3.Do not leave left over detergent in the tank .. see #2.
4.Read the directions when you put it together and make sure you read how to use this rather than just take it out and turn it on.I never read the first manual and didn't realize I should have been cleaning and using the spray button a totally different way.

This is a great machine and I hope it will last just as if not longer now that I know how to take care of and use it properly.
